Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

Hello,

I noticed this afternoon that the battery indicator in the system tray was at less than full and the status message reads "95% - Plugged in, not charging." This was not the case previously, and I haven't changed any battery or system settings that would affect this. I've only owned the computer for about a month or two and I'm concerned that there may be a problem with the battery.

I looked up this issue online and attempted to uninstall and reinstall the driver that affects battery control in System Settings, but there was no change to this behaviour. Is there a way to test if the battery is damaged? What other problems could I be having that would produce this effect?

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

Hi there, Swordoath    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Also,

- The battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or

- One of the battery cells have already reached its life span

- the chip that handles how the battery gets charge/discharge and checks the charge level of each battery cell (both are controlled by a firmware) is malfunctioning.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

Hi again,

Sorry it's taken a few days to get back to you on this, I was away for the weekend and did not have dedicated internet access at the time.

I am finding that the issue is now presenting itelf irregularly. Sometimes the battery indicator says that it is charging and other times it does not. There seems to be no way to predict if it will happen -- it doesn't seem to be related to the outlet I'm using as I've seen it happen both at home and at the office. It always seems to show 95% when it's not charging, so part of me is wondering if this is some hidden setting that I didn't realize was on.

There also seems to not be external battery access on this model. I'm wary to open the case to try reseating the battery; would this action void my warranty?

Overall I'm still as confused as I was when I first asked about this. Any further help would be appreciated.

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

I have exactly the same prob with my ideapad 310-15ABR, and the same symptoms too.

My comp is exactly two weeks old, so it's really annoying that I just can't seem to get an answer as to why the batt is plugged in and not charging, but seems stuck at 95% charge

Obviously, the batt is sealed into its compartments and cannot be taken out, so the suggestion that you take it out, isn't much help

did you ever get this issue resolved?

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

I noticed this yesterday and tackled it today. I have the ideapad 310 and it came with windows 10 last March 2017. I do not know what caused the problem but this is what I did to solve it. At least it is charging right now. We already know the battery is sealed inside the unit.

I disconnected the AC cord. I opened the device manager and uninstalled the Microsoft AC adapter and the Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery. I shut the machine down. I waited a couple second and pushed the start button then as I saw Lenovo on the screen I plugged in the AC adapter. It took its time starting like it does when it updates. When I got logged in it still took a bit for all of the taskbar icons to appear. When they did the battery was charging. It is currently 2 min to full charge. I was stuck at "95% plugged not charging" I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging" UPDATE

The problem came back a day ago. This time I ignored it. That same day I updated, immunized and scanned with Spybot and my malware protection. I shut down at end of day as usual. This morning the charge is at 100%.

Since the malware prevention/removal updates and scans is all I did I have to wonder if this issue in the battery charger software isn't some kind of malware code????

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

Hi there, I have the same problem as you too, my model is Ideapad 320 15AST.
I called the support agents serveral times but in the end, they said it was a problem caused by Microsoft and I'm really confused and irrerated.

I wonder if you fixed it or not, if so , can you please tell me how to do it?

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

OK, it's quite simple.

When I switch the comp off at night, I pull out the charging plug that connects it to the mains. Before starting up the comp in the morning, I plug it back in again. That seems to work, as it then starts charging until 100% fully charged.

Some of the time it still says that it's plugged in but not charging, but it never drops below 95% charged, so it isn't a prob anymore

hope this helps

Re: Lenovo ideapad 310-15IKB "Plugged in, not charging"

Anthony09,

I describe the answer I found in my first post. It has happened a couple of times since. this morning it is at 97% plugged in not charging. I think this is another endemic Lenovo issue that they do not want to address.
