Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

Hi Marko7,

I installed the SM961 after the BIOS version upgrade (from E5CN52WW to E5CN56WW) because I thought it had no chance to work with the original one.

In the E5CN52WW menu, you can see that two "ATA HDD:" slots are available (the first one beeing free and the second one being used by the 1TB HD).

And just after the upgrade to E5CN56WW, you can see "NVMe:" instead of the first "ATA HDD:".

That's why I think the E5CN52WW is just not aimed to manage NVMe but only ATA HDD SSDs !

No, that is not correct.  My Ideapad 700-15ISK arrived with a 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD pre-installed, and that was using a BIOS version that was even older than the "52" version!

If you look at the release notes for the "56" BIOS, you will see that some changes for SSDs were made in the "55" version of the BIOS (as far as I know, that version was never released to users).  I would expect that the "56" version supports a greater range of SSDs than the "52" version, but it is still guesswork as to whether any particular SSD will work.

Yeah, I totally agree. With the BIOS update just the range of supported SSDs has been expanded.

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

My Ideapad 700-15ISK arrived with a 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD.  But as this is my development system, I wanted to be able to install multiple operating systems, and 128 GB is too small.  So I have just replaced the 128 GB SSD with a 512 GB SSD.

I decided to "play safe", and stay with Samsung as the SSD maker (the original 128 GB was Samsung).  I also updated the BIOS to the "56" version before installing the new SSD.  Finally, I purchased the SSD several months ago, before the SM961 became available, so the one that I have installed is a SM951, specifically it is:

Samsung MZVPV512HDGL-00000

I re-installed Windows 10 from the Windows Recovery USB memory stick, and copied Windows 7 from the HDD to the SSD.  Both boot without problem, and seem to work fine (so far!).  One note: I changed both the SSD and HDD to MBR (makes multibooting easy).  GPT with UEFI might be more problematic.

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

Hey guys, I just want to report that 275 GB Crucial MX300 M.2 SSD is working fine with my 700-15isk, so I guess most of Sata 3 SSDs are supported too.

Cheers.

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

Hi

Please could you be able to share how you managed to get it to work step by step. Your help would be most appreciated as I am desperate here!

Many thanks i advance

Regards

César

You have not given us any clues to help you diagnose your problem.  Starting with the laptop powered off, you press the POWER button, and then what happens?

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

Hello everyone. I bought Samsung m.2 960 evo 250 GB a month before, and istalled in my idea pad 700-15isk. After one month I can summarize it works like a charm. I just migrated OS from old HDD to new SD. Seq read is about 3000 MB/s and sq write - about 1500 Mb/s...

Cheers!

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

Hello everyone

I haven't found any information about supporting the Intel 600p 128GB SSD. Has anyone tried this one? I know it's not in the HMM but I have been looking into the spare parts list and when looking at the SSDs, there are few more listed as a possible replacement. According to that list the originaly mounted Samsung 256 GB can be replaced with the Intel 600p 256 GB SSD but the 128GB version is not in the list as a replacement for the 128GB samsung. Is there any reason for that? Is there any difference between the Intel 600p 256GB SSD and Intel 600p 128GB SSD that should make it not be supported? All the other supported SSDs are in both 256GB and 128GB but why the Intel is only in 256GB?

these are the listed parts:

256GB Original:

   Samsung MZVLV256HCHP

Replacable with:

   Hynix HFS256GD9MND-5510A 256G

   SS MZVLW256HEHP 256G PCIE SSD

   TSB XG4 256G M.2 2280 PCIe SSD

   Intel 600p 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD

128GB Original:

   Samsung MZVLV128HCGR

Replacable with:

   Hynix HFS128GD9MND-5510A 128G

   SS MZVLW128HEGR 128G PCIE SSD

   TSB XG4 128G M.2 2280 PCIe SSD

If there's someone who could confirm that it will work also as 128GB I'd be glad.

Thanks

Re: M.2 SSD OPTIONS FOR IDEAPAD 700 15ISK

OK, I've got to find out myself.

Yesterday purchased the Intel 600p 128GB SSD, migrated OS in the evening and it still works great. Unfortunately the Intel Data migration software doesn't work with NVMe SSD so I had to choose some other SW. I used AOMEI Backupper an got no problems at all.

So if anyone was thinking about the same SSD, don't be afraid and give it a go.
