My Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15IBR won't turn on

My Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15IBR won't turn on. The power light would turn on after I press the power button only to turn off a second or so later. This would happen whether the laptop was plugged to AC adapter or not. I remember a similar problem with another laptop before and had to take it to computer repair, but I don't have that kind of money now. What should I do in order to fix the laptop myself? I recall that last time the motherboard or the hard drive was damaged and had to be repaired or replaced. (It's been a while, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.) If this time is no different, how can I replace or repair motherboard or hard drive (and which one do I do)?

Re: My Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15IBR won't turn on

Hi wjwsfnn,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

For power related issue, you can follow the power checkout guide offered in the hardware manual (here on page 21-22). This would help isolate ac charger and battery issue if not a systemboard /internal part failure.

The same manual would also show how to remove parts like harddrive and systemboards that ou can review.

Removing the hard drive should still allow a visible screen as it would POST (power on self test) even without it. Best to check the systemboard specially if you have cleaned out the fan and reapplied thermal paste before decising on replacement.

Here is also an article on how to search for parts and to order it.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: My Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15IBR won't turn on

Thank you for your reply. So I think it is the motherboard's fault (now that I think about why this happened to a different laptop before) and I'm planning to buy a replacement soon. But before that, I want to make sure it is completely the motherboard's fault. The left mouse button is stuck and could not function properly. When I press it down, it doesn't make that clicking sound like it used to. Would this be resolved if I buy a replacement of the motherboard? I managed to get underneath the left mouse key and the right mouse key but couldn't see what the problem/difference was. Also, when I removed the motherboard, I noticed some liquid on top of and condensation on the bottom of some transparent wrap that is beneath the motherboard. I wiped off the liquid on top of that transparent wrap. What is it? And should I be concerned about it? Did I make the laptop problem worse by wiping away that liquid?

Re: My Lenovo IdeaPad 110-15IBR won't turn on

Hi wjwsfnn,

Greetings.

Replacement systemboard may or may not help with the touchpad button. It would be best to have a service center verify a board issue as they would also be able to check the systemboard with the other parts if not with a board level troubleshooting.

Not sure about the white substance if it is a leak from one of the board capacitor or possible entry of liquid substance from outside that  should not be there in a normal motherboard. Cleaning and further inspection should be part of mapping board issues.

Regards
