Re: New Ideapad 320 really slow?

2019-06-13, 20:13 PM

Same problem here..

I bought Lenevo ideapad 320 with 4gb ram, i5 8th Generation adn 1 TB HDD but since day one I am not able to enjoy a single second using this laptop. I even complained with the sales staff who convinced me that " it's of no use to give laptop for repair to diagnosis since all they will do is format your pc and the problem is not with your machine it's with win 10 so there will a new update coming which will eventually fix the problem.". If there is problem with the system or hardware the responsible parties should try to fix it with whatever way possible. It's my hard earned mone and it's really sad the top brands are acting like frauds..

While agreeing with the sentiment you express - and it is completely unacceptable that this machine is still being sold in an unfit state (one passed through my hands only last week) and for resellers to profess ignorance and lay all the blame on Microsoft when it's a Lenovo issue, and the resellers problem, too - you do need to know that there are lots of useful suggestions in this thread that may sort out the problems.

My own suggestion - up until a day or two ago -   would have been to download the Windows 10 1809 version (you'll need a USB stick to create the install/boot media) and then boot from the stick and choose to completely erase every partition of your system drive in the process.

Trouble is, Microsoft, in its infinity wisdom, appears now to only have available the very latest Windows 10 (1903) version for download.

And, unless it's been fixed in the last few hours, you may not be able to boot from the stick that creates!

At least, what you have not been able to do is put in the stick and successfully run Setup.exe - which you can do with 1809 - instead you have to copy the contents of the stick to an empty folder in your system drive and that won't let you do a clean install. The problem is described on various site displayed in this Google search..

My computer was not usabele, it was so slow.  The thing that seemed to fix it was removing all of the applications and extensions running behind Chrome -- 1) somehow, a bunch of websites were tracking me live on Chrome.  So I cleared cookies etc, and I tunred them off, 2) I turned off Google Sheets -- and some other extension.

Also, I expanded virtual memory to 6mg -- the max recommended is 6.5mg for a 4mg chip.

While the computer is not a speed demon, it now works and multi-tasks well.

Now that it tis working machine, I am considering upgrading the Memory in order to make up for the slow speed CPU -- multi-tasking should be better.

I have faced the same problem with lenovo 320 series. It was my first laptop, extremely slow without actually using any office software. My solution is try ready boast with a pen drive. It did increase the speed of my laptop.

Re: New Ideapad 320 really slow?

I have the 320-14IKB and it runs pretty slow from day one (constant and frequent restarts in the first couple of months of use, and super laggy, prone to freezing, and unstable from then until today).

Doing simple tasks like opening windows  explorer, calculator, or even start menu can be very frustrating and waste of time. Sometimes, even those "not responding" windows are not responding. It is that bad.

It is unbelievable that my laptop from 2012 that runs i3 with 2GB RAM is faster and more stable than this i5-7200U with 4GB RAM. I have bought another laptop from a different brand (starts with A and ends with S) and it is much better and much stable, with little to no problems nor hiccups whatsoever, albeit the i3 processor and graphics.

I want to fix it but I don't think it's entirely the software's fault.

I do believe that you CAN make the machine far faster if you take a long hard read through the postings here.

My reply is on the last page of a 17-page thread.

Better, surely, to try out some of the many suggestions and only then post here?
