Please try some of the suggestions in this thread - read through ALL the pages carefully - and then report back here with how you got on.

Re: New Ideapad 320 really slow?

2019-07-02, 19:20 PM

Being on the verge of drop-kicking my 320 down the garden, I came across this thread, and thanks to all the advice have finally managed to get it operating at something like a semi-decent speed.

Like many others, it was taking 10-15 minutes to boot up, 5-10 minutes to load applications, constantly freezing etc.

In the end, I ended up doing the following:

  1. Uninstalled one drive
  2. Performed disk clean up
  3. Reinstalled Windows 10
  4. Created new High Performance Power Setting
  5. Installed software/diagnostics tools
  6. Downloaded Lenovo Service Bridge

At the moment (he says with crossed fingers!!), it's working reasonably well (and again many thanks to those who have posted solutions), but does beg the question why are so many users having to go through all of this in the first place???

I'd like to think that your response will be helpful to folk who've posted recently - but they need to work out the chapter and verse of your recommendations (most of which is in this thread).

As for why this situation exists?

I, too, am at a loss. It's not as though this is Lenovo's only laptop.

What also astonishes me is that Lenovo (and laptop sellers) are ignoring this thread and doing nothing about it.

If I were a seller, I'd pull the product; and if I were Lenovo I'd do exactly the same until the issues were fixed.

Suggests to me a lack of decency and also a severe lack of commonsense.

I have added the relevant posts to each of the steps I took - a bit long-winded but hope this may help others!!!

  • Uninstalled one drive (Page 14)
  • Performed disk clean up (Page 14):

I had the same problem for about 7 months. I contacted customer support later made clean install of windows but it didn't help at all.

The solution worked for me:

  1. Uninstall Microsoft one drive.
  2. Perform disk cleanup.

Now my laptop works fine

  • Reinstalled Windows 10 (Page 12):

Thank you very much.  I too had this computer for about 3 months (I bought it as a spare) and could not believe how horribly it ran.  It took at least 10 minutes to fully boot up, and even then, it couldn't operate mutiple programs.  The fan ran like it was going to explode as well.

Today I updated drivers, uninstalled all the unneccesary programs I could find, and reinstalled Windows.  No luck.

When I did the trick of going to Windows, downloading the Windows 10 program cleanly onto a new USB and then went about reinstalling, it runs smooth as silk.  Look, it's a 300 dollar laptop, I don't expect a gaming experience, but this is obviously an issue Lenovo.  Please address this and format the Windows correctly at the factory.

Here are the instructions I used from Microsoft and a link to the download.  Good luck, it's not that hard and I'm not a tech guy.

Created new High Performance Power Setting (Page 15):

Re: New Ideapad 320 really slow?

My laptop started to become slow within two days of doing disk cleanup.

Have read several articles and watched a handful of videos and did exactly what they said but nothing helped.

Atlast I have found a comment on an article which said; "If nothing works, select high performance in power options".

In lenovo idea pad 320 you dont have this option available, therefore you need to create a new power plan and select high performance.

My laptop is smooth now, still cant say for sure if the problem is gone or still persists. Will update within a few days.

Fingers crossed.

It is a Eureka moment for me!!

After a heck of searching and mind boggling finally I found a solution and I hope it would help others also.

Earlier I had uninstall all bloatware of Lenovo, kept looking at the resource monitor for hours and hours stopping and disabling one process after another my disk was still 100% and my Laptop was as slow as a sloth.

I even updated all the drivers manually using a software called drive easy, but just after a few hours my laptop went on the ventilator (almost dead).

Finally, I decided to uninstall the windows and do a fresh installation, since I have tried almost all the options present on the youtube videos for 100% disk and slow laptop and also read numerous articles.

But, before uninstalling an idea struck me, and I decided to install all the software (bloatware) and diagnostics tools from Lenovo website using the following link:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/sa/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/320-14isk/downloads?link...

Also installed Lenovo Service bridge.

Ran all the diagnostics and used the option of automatic update provided on the above link. It updated a few of my drivers did a handful of diagnostic tests and TADA!!!

Its a sigh of relief.

Rant over.

Fingers crossed, it’s still running reasonably well two weeks later!!! I did implement all of the fixes above - it may be that just one or two fo them will work for others.

Re: New Ideapad 320 really slow?

I was working and the laptop just jammed up, I have done what the forum suggested and nothing worked. I visited the service center. They told me they'll run a hardware scan/diagnosis and charged me only for inspection. After about 10-15 mins the service engineer tells me that there is no hardware issue. We have to update the BIOS. I left the laptop for a day and collected it the next day. Obviously the Windows was completely refreshed. He told me that we can only bring this laptop to it's original speed. If you want a good speed, replace your optical drive with a SSD, which i said no to. It's been few days and the laptop works fine. Also, after coming back from the service center, there was a notification for a BIOS update by Lenovo, which I did. My drivers were up to date and had the Lenovo service Bridge earlier too. When I closely see the bill, it's written Updated BIOS, and drivers as a solution.

Was the laptop slow before it "just jammed up"?

I ask, because this thread is about slow IdeaPad 320 laptops, not non-working models.
