Re: Night light turns on randomly

Hi.

I am having an issue with Night Light. The situation is: I am using laptop and the night light just turns on randomly to its desired level. (Screen becoms yelowish/ orange).

I go into the Settings>System>Display and the Night Light is off and in Notifications window where are many toggles it says OFF. (not colorised).

If I turn the Night Light ON it turns on to my set level, if I then turn it off, is goes back to Previous random setting. But nothing showes up there, my settings dont change. The screen just stays yelowish. And my Night light is not scheduled to any time.

Then some time later it just turns off it self. And this happens few times in day.

Please check if you have the latest updates of Windows. You may also check this article: https://pureinfotech.com/fix-night-light-windows-10-creators-update/?linkId=67266828

Especially how to reset manually the night light.

Night light turns on randomly

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Hi dairatars!

Welcome to the community forums.

It might be the paper display that is doing the yellowish display. See this article: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/forumkb/ll06_en@tkb!!3308275

Let us know if that works.

Regards,

Matt_lenovo

Re: Night light turns on randomly

I have the same issue on my brand new X1 (random dimming and "warming" of my display).  I tried to find any referennce to Paper Display as suggested, but there aren't any.

Any other suggestions for the X1 Gen 3 (20KJCTO1WW)?

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Hi. No, nothing happens when I press Fn+Esc.

I noticed that my screen turns on at 11:00 in morning if my computer is already turned on.

But if I turn it on later, it is already yellow.

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Hello dairatars!

Have you tried updating the display drivers? Use windows search, type device manager then navigate to display adapters, expand and select the video card. Right-click the device and click Uninstall. If available, you can check the Delete the driver software from this device, and then click the uninstall button. Restart the computer.

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Thanks for advice. I now updated the drives, but I guess I have to wait till tomorrow, since if I restarted my laptop the yellowish color disappeared and only appeared next day at 11:00 or on turn any time later.

Will let know if this worked tomorrow.

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Night light is still acting weird. Today it was on from turn on. But I went to settings and it was OFF there. I turned it On and Off and the yellowish color disappeared.

Yesterday, when my night light was ON (I turned it on) I connected external hard drive, and at exact that moment night light turned off by it self. So something strange is happening.

Re: Night light turns on randomly

Hi dairatars, Thanks for keeping us updated. I went ahead and did extra research on this matter and found that some Windows users are also having this issue. They have come up with a couple of steps we can try.

-Right click the Windows logo (Start button).
-Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
-In the command prompt window, type net user [username] /add, and then press Enter.
-In the command prompt window again, type net localgroup administrators [username] /add, and then press Enter.
-Restart your computer, and then log in to the new account.
-Using the new account, enable the Night light settings.
-Disable the Night light settings, and then restart your computer.
-Log in to the new account again, and then check if Night light will be active.

Let us know if this works out. Thanks.
