RAM upgrade on Flex 14 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80C4

Hi,

Thinking of a RAM upgrade on my Flex 14 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80C4, Model Name 20308, Machine Type Model 80C459407214.

Looking to replace the original 4GB (as per CPU-Z) Ramaxel RMT3170ME68F9F-1600 4GB DDR3L 1600 (CL11) with 8GB (CL9) which would be either:

- Kingston HX316LS9IB/8

or

- Patriot PV38G160LC9S

Are these whitelisted or whould I expect a surprise upon installing the new memory?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Re: RAM upgrade on Flex 14 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80C4

Hi io74 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As mentioned by one of our guru on this postThere should be no CAS latency limit, it is usually not a metric considered while creating whitelists.". Such ram choices may work without issue so long as you stay close to the main ram specifications:

DDR3L-1600 8 GB SODIMM × 1  (low voltage) (HMM page 27) , OEM parts also listed in the same manual on pages 71-72 item 14. Other compatible choices are here in the parts lookup  (under compatible tab>  commodity list under memory).

For best practice, do check return option specially purchasing 3rd party parts just in case.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: RAM upgrade on Flex 14 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80C4

Ok, crystal clear, thanks.

One more question: if I decide to go for 16GB memory -- will the system support it? As per Lenovo Solution Center (following the steps described here https://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/solutions/ht118222) the mamimum supported memory is 32GB which I don't believe, as the Intel specifications say max memory size supported by my CPU is 16GB.

thanks again.

Re: RAM upgrade on Flex 14 Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80C4

Hi io74,

Greetings.

Hardware manual say its 8GB supported by OEM.

This is certified for this capacity. Going beyond it is user's discretion as same reason why resellers have the manufacturer disclaimers. LSC may be reporting database from chipset/ CPU and not the OEM tested capacity.

There are claims that it may work (going beyond OEM suggested capacity as other variants /models may) but 16GB and up are a bit expensive to just test it with the machine.

Regards
