Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

L340-17IRH Gaming

Model - 81LL000UUK

Serial - ********

No soldered memory

Hi all,

I would like to upgrade my ram to 16GB of the best ram that I can. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been struggling to find a definitive answer for a ram upgrade. My laptop has 1 slot with 8GB installed. Compatible Lenovo parts lists all 2666MHz ram. In my task manager performance memory, I can see the speed is listed as 2400MHz. My base speed is running at 2.5MHz. I have tried a good few sites for compatible ram for my laptop and they all give me 2400MHz option. Is my laptop running at 2666MHz or 2400MHz? Which should I buy in 16GB when I upgrade?

I know timings are better on 2400 MHz over 2666 MHz so if it isn’t going to run at 2666 there is no point buying it.

I have used Crucial’s compatibility checker, but it does not give any Crucial Ballistix as options. Why is this? I can’t find a reason why it wouldn’t be compatible. Does that mean Corsair/HyperX ram is not compatible?

Would I be right in saying that any 2400/2666MHz dddr4 260 pin ram will work or does it have to be one of the listed parts such as 01AG865 etc?

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Hi

Welcome to Community Forums!

According to the Specification of L340-17IRH it came with a 2400MHz though that will not limit you in getting a RAM with higher/ faster frequency (2600MHz) because it is also compatible with your computer.

You can upgrade up to 16GB MAX as tested by Lenovo

You can find the Built-in Memory/RAM on a  L340-17IRH Gaming and their substitutes by typing the word "memory" on the search bar to filter the items to display.

You also have an option to see other compatible RAM and their substitutes by clicking Compatible in line with As-Built. All those from the list will work or is compatible to your computer.

As you mentioned on your post yo have check on Crucial. This may work as your reference.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Hi there ,

I also have "Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB DDR4-2666MHz (BLS16G4S26BFSD)" and i want to upgrade my 8GB DIMM. Will it be compatible ?

Another thing i wanted to ask is that i have a "Samsung 860 Evo 1TB" and i want to install it on the emty 2.5" slot . What parts do i need to install it ? Will any brackets , screws and cables do the job or do i need something specific ?

I am new to laptops and i dont know if the have compatibility issues or not :P .

Thanks in advance .

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Hi

Is your computer a L340-17IRH Gaming as well?

If yes then maximum memory tested to work on this model is 16 GB.

There is already 4GB soldered on the motherboard. thus adding a 16 GB will not work since by then it will already be 20GB but that will not limit you in trying you already have the item on hand anyway. If it will not work then just put what ever was there before adding the 16 GB.

For the storage on this model , it has Up to 2 drives (one HDD, one M.2 SSD):

If SSD is M.2 Type just like the item photo below then it should work but not if its the typical SSD

Hope this help answer your query.

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Thanks for the quick respond .

My laptop is this exactly https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Lenovo%20Laptops/ideapad_L34017IRH_Gaming?M=81LL000UUK .

So you say that i better use a m.2 samsung evo and format it from the start  than put an extra SSD 2.5" ?

And also about the RAM i dont think it has 4GB soldered as you say . You can check the model i sent you .

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Hi

The photo below indicates your Memory and the Storage on your computer.

On the link you provided it shows that your total RAM on your computer is 8GB DIMM DDR4-2400.

Check if the memory module that you have on your computer if its 8GB then that means there is no soldered RAM and that you are free to upgrade it to 16GB

Based on the link you provided came already with a256GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe NVMe which means the available slot for upgrade is a  HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, 5400rpm.

You maybe able to use you Samsung Evo there as long as you can find a compatible SSD Caddy similar to the item on the image below that will work with your computer.

Hope this help answer your query.

Re: Ram upgrade for L340-17IRH Gaming

Because the integrated GPU in the processor also assigns itself a fixed amount from the start. When it needs more, it automatically assigns itself more RAM, but this amount is set in the BIOS as the "discrete" graphics storage for the iGPU.
