Reinstalling windows with warranty

Hey, my laptop (300-15isk) recently slowed down quite a bit and I'm thinking to reinstall windows 10 or installing arch linux, but I'm worried about my active warranty for another 4 months. I would really like to keep my warranty and reinstall windows. In lenovo Vantage it says all about my warranty and all, but if i reinstall it, will it still say it or will i lose my warranty? Could you give me tips? and if i reinstall windows with a bootable usb, will i need to reactivate them with a new microsoft windows activation code?

Re: Reinstalling windows with warranty

You'll not lose your warranty by reinstalling OS. Also, you don't need any bootable media to reinstall your OS. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Reset this PC. And then select if you want to keep your private data or not.

BTW. Sudden slow down suggest HDD performance decrease - you may consider buying a SSD. How much RAM do your laptop have?

Re: Reinstalling windows with warranty

Hi Pault02,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I think the warranty you have would be mainly be for the hardware of your machine.

So any software changes do not affect it not unless that it would cause failure of the system itself during the process. I does happen that reported cases of linux distro affects the firmware so it would be best to reinstall it with the same version of Windows 10.

Product key for activation on preloaded Windows 10 machine are embedded on the systemboard and automatically activates as long as you use the same version.

Before starting, back up all your needed files on a separate storage and create a recovery drive with the image as shown here. It is also ideal to run hardware scan with Lenovo Vantage to confirm that there is no hardware issue on your machine and maybe decide on a simple Windows reset instead of a clean installation.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Re: Reinstalling windows with warranty

My laptop has 8Gb and i did consider buying an SSD, but i think it only has one slot for a drive and i need a lot of space on it. So, buying a 500/750gb ssd would be too expensive and i don't like to bring another drive everywhere i go, but thanks for your answers, I'll do a hardware scan and reset my windows.
