Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

Hi, I need some help here. My laptop is the Flex 2-15, 20405 (Intel chip) It was stepped on and the glass is broken; I want to replace the whole assembly. I've tracked down part numbers, and it seems that three fit the Flex 2-15. My problem is that the model 20405 seems to be HD 1366x768, and the FRU from the parts manual (5D10F86071) is advertised as a FHD 1920x1080. I just figured this out after ordering from Ebay. Question; will the FHD unit work with the MB in the HD? If this is using Intel's on chip graphics, it should work, right?

It's been a real pain finding the right FRU and LCD. Amazon vendors show the correct photo, but the parts arrive and the bezzle is all wrong, and corrisponds to an Edge 2. I've had to go to Ebay...

Re: Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

Hi Alfaman ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number ? You may check it on the sticker or check it from the parts look up page . Just keep your serial number confidential .

Here is also a guide on searching parts.

To avoid ordering incompatible part , it would be best to use the serial number or machine number for the correct FRU part . Hardware manual list may be in general for all variants.

Example is Machine Number 59422160 from the product specification sheet showing same LCD 15.6" HD (1366x768) . Using the parts lookup page for LenovoFlex2-15GPBKTXMI54210U8G5088MUS Machine Type - Model 59422160  :

FRU number 5D10F76794 LCD Module W Flex2-15 Black LCD PANELS with also substitute parts :

5D10G18359 LCD Module W Flex2-15 Black LCD PANELS EQUIVALENT
5D10G18361 LCD Module W Flex2-15 Black LCD PANELS SOFT

Lenovo Encompass would be the lead distributor that you can check with pricing and availability.

Use the FRU number also when ordering on other resellers.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

Thanks for your reply, and thanks for the PSREF sheet!

My machine number has rubbed off of the sticker. What I do have to work with is the serial number, but for some reason the most important spec isn't listed; my machine number and what the resolution would be. I should looked before I disassembled the laptop. What I do know is:

It's an i5. It's machine type 80FK.

I've found the other websites you refer to. Lenovo Encompass isn't great, for actually ordering the part, but it is good for listing the alternative parts. This is how I found the three compatable screens, but not what their resolution is. I just now found another compatable FRU that they do stock, for a good price though...the others I found  were NLA, and the last one was avail as special order for 3x what I paid for the laptop.

My fear is that this screen will be a remake from China with lower quality. This happens with cell phone screens when you can't find one from the original manufacturer...the screen I purchased is: 5D10F86071 and is listed as one that would fit the 80FK, and one that showed up as NLA on Encompass.

Question remains. Are the mother boards the same for all of the machine numbers for 1366 and 1920 resolutions? Then, I will be OK. Maybe even get a better performing screen.

Re: Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

I just found my machine type (59422160) and compared it to it's nearest match 59418271 using PSREF. Looks like the LCD assemblies are interchangable, as some used both resolutions.

Re: Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

Ok, it's confirmed that FRU 5D10F86071 works for my machine type! It's not displaying at the higher resolution, however, nor am I able to select the 1920x 1080 FHD from 'Display' in windows. It seems to be at the lower 1366 x 768 HD that the original screen was.

The only problem I had was that the tabs on the outside of the new screen are smaller than the original, and it won't snap into place on the top and sides, so I had to glue it. Typical Chinese parts supply outside of Lenovo channels; been through this with other laptops and cell phones. Meh. Also, there's a strange cross hatching that you can see on the LCD when it's powered off. Other than that, it works and I'll make my kid promise not to leave her laptop on the floor covered in clothes again. Kids...

Re: Replacing Flex 2-15 LCD FRU

Hi Alfaman ,

Greetings.

As most OEM specially with laptop , fittings are the usual issue although connectors would be similar. These are same reason why ordering OEM parts need to stick with the FRU numbers.

Just the same , nice to hear that all is ok. Big win for the dads here.

Same reminder that usually at home, laptops and tablets gets sat on from the couch too.

Best of luck to all your endeavors.

Cheers
