Synaptics driver working but does not have a control panel

I recently bought a Lenovo L340 laptop, installed Windows 10 x64 build 1809, and installed all the necessary drivers (some I skipped like updates to WiFi drivers and stuff cause I've had bad experiences with updated drivers, if it works...)

Now this laptop has Synaptics trackpad, and the driver is working fine (all gestures but the double tap for right click) and I can't change that, there is no Synaptics control panel in the mouse options or through Device Manager>Device Settings.

Now to be clear, the driver and device ARE working, service is running, task is there, gestures are working but a very important one, and I can't disable any if I wanted to since I can't access the control panel for it.

Is there a work around, settings text file I could change, software to override Synaptics drivers...?

Things I've tried:

1- Using DriverMAX to update the drivers.
2- Installing UltraNAV drivers or an older driver (did not work as it said Device could not start Code:10)
3- Using drivers from Windows Update.

Re: Synaptics driver working but does not have a control panel

Hi @SRWilliam2 ,

Welcome to Community Forums!

You can try to download and install the Synaptics touchpad driver on the Support Site. Just type in the serial number or Machine Type Model then search. Go to Drivers and Software > Manual Update > Mouse, Pen and Keyboard

Afer download, go to Device Manager > Mice and Other Pointing Devices. Uninstall and delete the current driver (Synaptics), then restart the computer.

After restart, open the downloaded file for Synaptics driver and install.

You can also refer to the accepted solution on this discussion regarding Trackpad device settings missing.

Give us an update on how it goes.

Regards

Re: Synaptics driver working but does not have a control panel

The drivers from Lenovo support's website are working but still no control panel.

As for the older drivers from that thread, when installed and rebooting, they return a "Device could not start. Code:10" and the trackpad remains unusable till I uninstall it.

The driver is installed and working, Synaptics Control Panel isn't.

Re: Synaptics driver working but does not have a control panel

On newer versions of the driver, the Synaptics Control Panel is not a part of the driver anymore, and the changes have to be done via Registry (only advised if you really know what you do). Also, get rid off these driver updating tools. They have the tendency to cause trouble by trying to install incompatible drivers or generally wrong driver versions.

Re: Synaptics driver working but does not have a control panel

Okay, that seems to be the case, I have dealt with the registry enough to know what to do and what to avoid, but I don't know the folder/keys to change or their location, I'd highly appreciate it if you could link me to how to change the settings of the driver.

Thank you for your advice, I only use the third-party softwares when native Windows support/laptop manufacturer fail to deliver, and I tend to remove them after installing the driver I need.

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-Synaptics-Two-Finger-Tap-Right-Cl...

This is a thread that at least gives you the path in the registry. You can check that out. Maybe the options you are looking for are to be found there. I cannot directly help you with that since my Yoga 530 apparently has the Microsoft Precision drivers (touchpad settings per Windows Settings menu).

And we're back...
