I need help on choosing the suitable 8GB DDR4 RAM for my Laptop

My MTM are: 80XS0023MJ

Also i have doubt on the RAM Frequency, right now my Laptop running with 4GB 1866Mhz, BUT can I exceed the Frequency for like 2400Mhz for my Laptop?

Thanks

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

Hi Asyadwan,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Product specification for the 320-15ABR :

16GB max / 1866MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable, optional
4GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket

I do not think you can go for a 2400Mhz since the current installed 4GB ram is soldered on your motherboard (part number 5B20P11101 MB L 80XS A129720P AMD R17M-M1-70_ 4G 4G). Adding additional RAM surely can improve performance a lot but would clock down to the lowest speed (1866 MHz).

Compatible RAM listed here on parts lookup page (commondity type:memory).

Hardware manual here for RAM assembly (page 43).

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

So if I want to upgrade to 8GB I should just put additional 4GB DDR4 RAM? And also if I put 2400Mhz DDR4 RAM would there be any complication?

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

Hi Asyadwan,

Yes, you can add 4GB or even 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 on the single available slot to add to your current soldered 4 GB RAM.

No complications as this would just clock down to lowest speed. In fact if you have checked the parts lookup, it suggest compatible 8GB with 2400MHz.

Regards

What if I buy a RAM that are not listed on the list. Will it still compatible to the Laptop?

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

Hi Asyadwan,

Greetings.

Those listed by OEM are certified tested parts but should not limit owners to upgrade with a different brand as long as the specifications are the same. When buying 3rd party parts, review the return options just in case.

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

The specs state that this model can be upgraded to 16g memory, however, when i opened it up, there is one 4g memory stick and another 4 g that is soderd on mother board and unrecoverable. How am I able to upgrade to 16g? Also, no one seems to make or sell 1866hz anymore.

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

Hi DJPeter84! Thanks for reaching us. The motherboard can support up to 16GB memory, however, since the variant you have does have 4GB soldered, you can maximize the upgrade by adding additional 8GB memory. Here are the list of compatible and tested memory for your laptop

Re: Upgrading my Lenovo ideapad 320-15ABR Ram

Checking on the MTM 80XS00DJUS. The laptop has 8gb of ram (1 x 4 GB + 4 GB (soldered)). That information shows on other reseller of the laptop. Please contact Best buy for clarification.
