Welcome to the Community Forums.
Checking the product spec sheet does implies in general:
320-15ABR: 16GB max / 1866MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable, optional 4GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket
To this effect, the model variant supports up to 16GB ram capacity. Replacing 8 GB + 4GB soldered ram on-board would total 12GB, those motherboards without any soldered ram have the option to place in a 16GB memory on the single slot.
We don't have a confirmed case yet to have 16+4GB soldered to work as of the moment as it may still be possible but maybe because of the pricing of 16GB, fellow member in the community may not have tested it yet.
Checking 80XS00DJUS on the parts lookup page here would show compatible ram for model 80XS if you click Compatible under configuration then click memory under Commodity type. Notice how it offers 2400 and DDR4 2666 along with its substitutes as supported frequencies that users may choose depending on the availability on their location.
I hope this helps answer your query.

Maybe Best buy can best to explain as resellers usually have disclaimer notes to check with manufacturer. Such claim most likely are readings from software scanners cheking on chipset supported but may not be available physically per design.
As previously mentioned and as you have also physically checked, 16GB is offered for boards without soldered 4GB ram. Your best upgrade plan is max 12 (4GB onboard + 8GB add-on ram).
I hope this clarifies the issue.
