can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

just want to know if my motherboard has the backlit connector...

and if not, if there is some way to light up the keyboard in any way (soldering to some voltage so it stays always lighted up?)

(contacted the service in my country and they didn't know... they said there is not yet available... don't know with 'yet' as if the connector will grow by itself in the motherboard)

seriouslly thinking buying http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-for-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Touch-15ISK-Y700-15ACZ-Laptop-UK-Black-Backlit-Keyboa... ans open the laptop and change the keyboard... with th risk to lose the warranty

anyone?

thanks,

Dan

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

Hi shpe ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Variants of ideapad 700-15ISK have optional backlit keyboard depending on location that may not yet be offered in your region as confirmed by lenovo technicians. It would usually show a light icon on the left edge of the spacebar (FN + spacebar to activate)

Checking physically for active power port for backlighting systemboard alone would not also guarantee if the port is electrically available not unless that the motherboard part number is similar to 80RU00CWUS with 5B20K91444 MB W 80RU WIN I76700H N16PGT 4G systemboard or  80RU00D8US  with 5B20K91444 MB W 80RU WIN I76700H N16PGT 4G .

Opening the laptop specially for upgrades do not neccessarily violate the warranty when being opened as long as no parts gets damaged during the process but best if you ask lenovo tech first as the agreement coverage maybe different in your region.

I was unable to get an image of Part number 5B20L07085  MB W 80RU NOK I76700H 4G DIS  for Machine Type - Model 80RU00NBRI similar to this post to check under the hood

Either that we have someone to test it or simply wait for innovations while using usb lamps as a simpler option.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Update us what works best for you.

Regards

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

very usefull info there...

checked the PDF myself before posting here...

but how do I know what parts does my laptop have?

since there is a i7-6700HQ, could be 5B20L07084, 5B20L07085,5B20K91442 or 5B20K91444? and maybe eliminate the 2G(maybe video RAM)...

but what do I have?
MB W 80RU NOK I76700H 4G DIS  or  MB W 80RU WIN I76700H N16PGT 4G ?

how do you know that this is what I have? MB W 80RU NOK I76700H 4G DIS ???

because N16PGT seams to be the codename for http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-950M.138026.0.html which I have in my system, but also don't really know if there are ideapad 700 with no Nvidia GPU onboard...

the maintenance manual didn't contain any product references... 80RU00NBRI is nowhere to be found

also asked the tech in my country (3rd party service), on phone they said to take the laptop to them and in up to 15days will get an answer, or in email they said: the backlit keyboard is not available yet... what YET means? there is a posibility that my port suddenlly apear on my motherboard???

but the backlit keyboards are different from model to model? because on ebay I only found the backlit keyboard for y700... guessing the same connector/voltage? or?

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

Hi shpe ,

Greetings.

Using your machine number 80RU00NBRI on the part lookup page  :

Notebook IP 700-15ISK I7 8G 1T Machine Type - Model 80RU00NBRI

SYSTEM BOARDS - part number 5B20L07085 (MB W 80RU NOK I76700H 4G DIS )

It maybe that what the tech meant is to check if there are electrically active power port for the backlight on your systemboard and via email that the variant of Notebook IP 700-15ISK with backlight boards is not available yet in your region unlike in UK or US that maybe due to marketing demands.

Backlight features are optional as well as those with dvd options and is different from each variant (MTM).

If your board part number is not 5B20K91444 (usual for MTM 80RU00CWUS) or 5B20K91444 (usual for MTM 80RU00D8US) then it is not safe to assume that it has an electronically active backlit port.

Ordering OEM parts are best done via part number to assure you are getting a compatible part .

Hope that this clarify some details to your query.

Regards

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

strange that there is no keyboard parts

does 5CB0K85937 include the keyboard?

because the 5CB0L03571 is in the 80RU00CWUS, but doesn't list the 5CB0K85937

so the parts lookup page does say only what the laptop contain, not all the compatible parts... because the "UpperCase without backlit keyboard" should be compatible with the "UpperCase with backlit keyboard" right?

and why there is no keyboard part like this in there: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-for-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y700-UK-Keyboard-backlit-SN20H54501-PK130ZF2A10-/1316...

will try buying that and go to service and see what will happen...

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

Hi shpe ,

Greetings.

Upper case cover bundles the keyboard and it would be hard to say if everyone has the backlit cable features.

Based on what I have noticed among dispatched parts previously , best guarantee to get the right piece is using the part number.

Local service center can electrically check and even test with a spare part for possible upgrade option and is a good idea.

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

Hi,

I have the exact same model as you (80RU00NBRI) and was very dissapointed when I bought it that it did not come with a backlit keyboard as I expected. Can you confirm if your solution worked. I would like to do the same thing as you!

Thank you!

Re: can I upgrade to backlit keyboard on my ideapad 700 (80RU00NBRI)

at my local service they say that no keyboard with backlit for 80RU00NCRI and to try in a month or so...

if I install the Y700 backlit keyboard that I found on ebay.com I will lose my warranty, and I just brought the laptop a few months ago

if the costs are to hight I go wild and change it myself...
