I was trying to use it as a tablet tonight, and the touchpad wouldn't work with my fingers.
I tried disabling/removing the HID-compliant touch screen entry in Device Manager and rebooting, disabling and then enabling, but none of those worked.
Is there a fix or is the solution to do a Square Trade warranty service?

Sorry for the confusion as you mentioned in your first sentence that the touchpad is not working.
Regarding the touchscreen, there is a thread discussing on how to fix this. Here's the link, https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-1xx-3xx-5xx-7xx/Lenovo-Flex-5-1570-Type-80XB-Missing-HID.... If not working, please do a system restore and select the date when it was working properly.

Have you tried resetting the laptop to is factory settings? If yes and still does the same, then it is a hardware failure. We suggest contacting our local support here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6 for repair options. Thanks.

Resetting did not work. I believe this is related to and caused by the firmware updating issue described here:
