laptop stuck in legacy boot, help?

2017-04-11, 18:56 PM

Just booted up the laptop and got this error message:

efi network 0 for ipv4 lenovo

Like a complete moron I googled the problem and followed what it said in a thread on here. The HDD wasn't detected and someone mentioned on here to change the BIOS to Legacy now when I start the computer it constantly boots up to an error screen and restarts.

Help!

Hi there, Miserablerbro                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

This may be cause by a wrong Boot Order or the HDD technically cannot be detected by your computer causing it to boot to other media.

Can you first try doing a Power Drain:

Remove the AC Adapter from your Computer if the battery can be removed, Remove it as well.

Hold the Power Button down for 15 sec.

Reconnect Everything, Turn on the Computer and start hitting F2 or Fn + F2

This will boot the system to BIOS

If you cannot find the HDD in there, try re-seating the HDD

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

HI Cheers for the reply.

When i moved it to Legacy boot the Fn+F2 doesnt bring me to the boot screen, it just keeps resetting after the Lenovo logo screen after it brings up the error "pxe-e61 media test failure, check cable"

The "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable" error that you’re getting happens when the system doesn't detect the HDD (or any bootable media) and then boots into the network.

Did you re-seat the HDD?

Otherwise, having it tested on a computer repair shop can help as they would have necessary tools to test the machine with specially if the BIOS do not see the physical drive.

Update us how it goes.

Try accessing BIOS via the Novo button.  If you can get there, set BIOS to defaults and see if that helps.  You may indeed have a bad main drive, but at least see what sorting BIOS does.

There are a several 305 models, but it looks like the Novo button is on the right side for all of them.  Press it with the laptop off.
