"Ghost touches" on EDGE 2 screen

2016-09-14, 17:36 PM

I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been great for 10 months.

PROBLEM:  2 days ago, the screen pointer (arrow) began appearing in the lower left hand corner, jumpiong around, and iinterfering with the ability to use the mouse.

TEMPORARY FIX:  I found that if I push hard anywhere on the screen, it seemed to "freeze" the "jumpy pointer", and I could use the mouse.  After looking into several things, I found that I could eliminate the problem by disabling the touchscreen (by going into Device Manager, and selecting the touchscreen, then disable)

QUESTION:  Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue, and how to fix?  I doubt hardware, because I am careful with my PC, and rarely use the touchscreen, and keep it clean (gentle, barely damp cloth only).

Hi there, Ski    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Ghost touches on the screen are most of the time caused by a faulty digitizer (this is the touch screen panel that enables touchscreen functionality) or the Touch panel module (LED panel w/ Touch). So I would Lenovo service center and report your findings.

Also click here for better understanding.

Can you try the following?

  1. Under theDevice ManagerHuman Interface Devices, can you do a right click and disable on anything that says HID-compliant device (this is the driver that controls the touchscreen).
  1. When finished, reboot the system and observe if you still get the same issue.

Update us how it goes.

Thank you for the response.

I will report my problem to Lenovo Service center as you suggest.

In the meantime, I tried to follow your suggestion involving Device Manager, but in Human Interface Devices, there is not anything called "HID-compliant device".  There is HID-compliant touch screen, which, as I said in my original message I disabled to make the problem go away, but if returns if I enable it.  There are also 5 things labelled HID-compliant vendor defined device.   Should I disable those and try a restart?

No. I suggest not to disable any other things. You could use the System Restore feature to get your computer back the time when it worked.

So, the only suggestion you have at this point is to take it in to a service center if I ever want to use the touchscreen again?  I assume that you mean that you think this is a hardware issue only?

Brainski, it can be disappointing when your computer screen continues to crash as a result of technical errors. I personally suggest you to visit the nearest Lenovo service center since a specialist computer service technician will offer adequate assurance that your laptop is in the right hands and it will be repaired appropriately if needed. Schedule a Call-back for faster support.
