Authentication failure. Set the media server credentials to regain access.

2014-12-28, 16:13 PM

I recently upgraded the firmware on my ix4-300d from 4.0.8.23976 to version 4.1.106.31982.

Since the 4.1.x firmware versions it makes you setup security now so I created my admin account with password (matches my computer user and password).

I set all shares to "everyone read/write" so that i had access from all devices like my PS3 for media just in case.

I cannot refresh my media server database anymore or scan for new files, it just says,

"Authentication failure. Set the media server credentials to regain access."

I've tried to set the media server password using the "credentials" button on the media server app, but it gives me the exact same error after I type any username and password combination.  I just don't know what to do.  I have about 6TB of data on RAID5 so I'd have to have some massive extra storage to back it up and redo the NAS.

Hello intermatt

If the Media Server Authentication KB article did/does not work for you, please try turning media server off from the web interface, reboot the NAS, then turn media server back on afterward it boots.  If there is no change please contact LenovoEMC support for further assistance on the issue.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Steven. I had previously set a username/password on my twonky page. I loaded IP:50599/#advanced, and cleared the username/password and saved changes. Once the credentials were blanked on the twonky page, I was able to set the credentials on IP/manage/media.html?cat=all using the new "credentials" button and I could do a database rebuild finally.

Hallo,

tried the supposed solution, but I cannot access (authentication failure) the twonky server page IP:50599/#advanced or any other twonky pages to clear the username/password. Any thing is not described in the given solution or it does not work.

Hello hfr

Would need to follow the Media Server Authentication KB article first to setup the media server credentials.  You would then be able to access the twonky media server settings using http://ipaddress:50599

The KB article does not help to solve the authentification problem.

Have you had any success on finding the default user name and password? I have the same problem.

Hi TDCGoofy.  Without a little more background, I assume your issue was similar to mine, but I've fixed mine.

Did you also recently upgrade from firmware 4.0.8.23976, or a firmware that did not require you to have a login to the management page?
If you, like me, found the twonky settings page long before this firmware upgrade ( http://ipaddress:50599 ) and set a username and password there for remotely streaming content, then that set of credentials on that twonky page is what is conflicting.

The twonky page (and therefore Lenovo media page) never had a username/password by default... it was just nothing and would not prompt for one.

If you can successfully log into http://ipaddress:50599 ( ipaddress =  your nas IP ), then go to the advanced page http://ipaddress:50599/#advanced and clear the contents of both the username and password fields, then click "save changes" at the bottom.

The username and password of this twonky page should be the unique credentials you used after finding this page the first time.  It won't be the same as the admin login you created for the Lenovo page unless that's what you set it as.

You should now be able to log into the management on the Lenovo  http://ipaddress/manage/media.html  and use the "credentials" button to set a new username and password for secured media streaming.

After setting the credentials, if you log back into the twonky config page, it should prompt you for a username and password to access the page which should match what you set in the Lenovo media credentials.

Let me know if this helps or not.  Thanks.

I could access Twonky media server before I updated the firmware to the latest one week ago. Haven't set a user name and password there so not sure what has happended.

Even if I check the box for unlimited access to media content, I still can't login without a password. When unlimited access has been selected anyone should be able to access my media content without restriction.
