Cannot connect from OSX Mavericks

2013-11-03, 15:21 PM

After upgrading my iMac to Mavericks (OSX 10.9), the system cannot connect (using an user account and password) to the Iomega Storcenter ix2 showing the message:

There was a problem connecting to the server "storage-5".

The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.

The storage-5 can now only be accessed as 'Guest', leaving the protected directories unaccessable.

Info from the admin dashboard:

The device software is up to date.

  Current Device Software Version: 2.1.42.18967

Thanks for your answer and hopefully a solution.

Pascal

Hi roguesheep,

How exactly are you trying to connect to the NAS? Are you using the Storage Manger software or the web browser interface or AFP, bonjour...etc.?

Are you allowed to create a new admin user or change any of the settings for the other admin (password, access permissions, admin status)? Is security enabled or disabled?

Lastly, you could try holding the reset button on the back of the device for 15 seconds or until the device reboots to reset user settings.

Re: Cannot connect from OSX Mavericks

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your quick answer.

I am connection through OSX Finder which worked fine with OSx 10.6 and still works fine from my OSX 10.8 laptop.

Connecting with the web browser interface also works fine. I am able to succesfully create an admin account but with this account I still cannot connect in Finder on 10.9, only on 10.8.

What settings will be lost if I reset ad you described?

Regards,

Pascal

The soft reset from the back is not data destructive, it will set user and network settings back to default.

I would recommend using Storage Manager to connect to the device. You can download the software from the link below:

LenovoEMC Storage Manager for Mac: Version 1.4.4.14439

The reset did not work. (the device did never reset or reboot when requesting this using the web-interface)

The LevovoEMV Storage manager is only available for 10.6 - 10.8, no version 10.9 on the page you suggested.

Any idea where to find the 10.9-version?

After a power-of & on, connecting in Finder using my credentials (Storage-5 user account), the same 'server version' error message appears and no connection is made.

When I reconnect  to the server (using Apple-K key combo) and use the same credentials, the Storage-5 is mounted.

When I 'Disconnect' (in Apple's Finder) and try to re-connect again, the same message again.

In short:

a. (re)connecting to the server using Apple-k does connect me

b. (re)connecting using the 'Connect as'-button in finder does not connect me (using the same credentitals as in a.)

We have the same problem, our computer with MAC OS x Mavericks can not access folders with restricted permission.

Our office works with 4 computers with windows and one with MAC OS, only the MAC has problems accessing the server. The error message is the same that appears to "roguesheep" (The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported.)

Info from the admin dashboard:

The device software is up to date.
   Current Device Software Version: 2.1.42.18967

Thanks for your answer and hopefully a solution.

That is the latest version of Storage Manager. It has not been updated yet since Mavericks just recently came out, but it should still work.

Do you have the AFP protocol enabled under Network Services?

I found out that Mavericks has changed their SMB protocol. When you press "command+k" type in "cifs://<IP address of NAS>". Let me know if this works. You can also try tech support or Apple support as others are having problems connecting to their NAS with Mavericks.
