Re: Home Media Network HD died after firmware upgrade

2015-02-01, 16:58 PM
I found that I can connect the drive to the network by doing the following:

1. Shutdown the drive and unplug power cable
2. Remove LAN cable
3. Power on the drive and wait a few minutes
4. Connect LAN cable

Having to do these things is still very annoying, but at least I have
access to my data.

Re: Home Media Network HD died after firmware upgrade

I'm trying to use the imager they sent me and it fails during the deleteing partion step of the load to the USB drive with an error code of -2147467259. Tech support won't help because they say I never registered. I've already sent the invoice to the warranty group and they say they never received the regristration card I mailed when I bought the unit. I didn't have internet access for almost a year after I sent in the warranty so I don't have a warranty confirmation they emailed me.

 Hello klmmke

Have you tried to clean the usb drive using diskpart or a 3rd party utility such as CCleaner as the instructions mentioned if the imager was not able to clean the drive?

If cleaning the drive does not help, please try using a different usb drive for the process.  You may also want to try using a different computer to run the application on.

Hope that helps you move forward on the process.

Re: Home Media Network HD died after firmware upgrade

I can run the scripts that the install utility uses to clean and format the usb drive in a command prompt successfully:

C:\Users\kenneth mayer\AppData\Local\LifeLineImager\diskpart.txt

select volume F:

clean

C:\Users\kenneth mayer\AppData\Local\LifeLineImager\diskfrmt.txt

select volume F:

clean

create partition primary

active

format fs=fat32 quick

however the utility always fails during the clean process:

install-error-2.jpg

The installer I'm using is hmnhd-3.2.3.15290. Is this correct?

Hello klmmke

The imager would be correct for your device.

Try downloading and fully extracting the .exe file from the downloaded zip file.  Make sure the .exe file is NOT on or extracted to the usb drive, then run the imager utility again.

If it still does not work, please try on other computers, ideally windows 7 64 bit.

I have this downloaded and extracted to my download folder on the computer - not on the usb drive. I've tried this on 4 different computers - all are running win 7 home premium 64 bit - and get the same results on every computer. Is it possible the download I have is bad?

Hello klmmke

The imager link that would have been provided is the same globally so the link is good.  However there is the chance that the download did not work correctly and the .zip file was affected.  You may want to try downloading from a different web browser to test this.  You may also want to try a different extraction utility just in case.

Re: Home Media Network HD died after firmware upgrade

2015-03-08, 16:56 PM

For all those who have been frustrated with the lack of Lenovo response and solution  to damaging Iomega Home Network Drives by  installing an approved firmware upgrade and then finding access difficult  - if not impossible ( my case)  - here is my solution to getting your data back. I dont know if it will work in all cases but if none of the other solutions work ( reset, network cable plug in after boot, arp-a use to find an IP etc. etc. ) here is what worked for me to get my data back.

1. Remove the drive from the network interface casing

2. Buy a USB SATA disc interface or take out the SATA drive from an existing USB disc interface

3. Re-install the Home Network drive in the USB interface hardware

4.Download Parted Magic iso file ( $ 9.00) and burn it to a CD  - you can use the right click Burn the file  option under Windows 8

5.Plug the Home Network drive to a USB connection

6.Load the Parted Magic software ( stand alone operating system) from your CD using the Boot CD option under Windows ( you will have an  F key option to access at start-up time)

I found that my drive could not be accessible using the Disk Health program but I COULD ACCESS ALL all the data  files using the File Manager program. My volume It was listed as the 2.0 TB Volume, clicking on this revealed ALL my shares and files and I was able to email them after connecting to the internet.

Thanks to Parted Magic software creators this has saallowd me to recover my data.

It obviously requires that the DATA partition is valid on the drive - it appears the directory partition on my drive was damaged by the firmware upgrade - Thanks Lenovo !

I have yet to find out how to connect  my new NON-LENOVO network drive inside the Parted Magic system to allow a disc to disc transfer but my major relief is that I know I can get to my data. I havent tried all data types but all those tried so far worked.

Hope this helps

Thank you AndyT1

If anyone else is at a point where data recovery is needed.  Mounting the internal hard disks via a linux computer or trying to use disk recovery software such as Parted Magic, UFS Explorer, etc as other threads have listed should allow data to be recovered as long as the disks are not damaged.
