Lenovo IX2-DL after upgrade to 4.1.106. still configure

2014-12-16, 17:35 PM

I upgrade NAS to 4.1.06.

After that NAS reboot, and when I try access to then by browser, then show me page : .../manage/restart.html "Software Update in progress - The device is configiring storage"  by 5s.  Then show normal page, but if I try manage any features - first start the page "Software Update ......"  Then sometimes I see correct page, sometimes not.

After few working hours (with or without access) WebManagement hangs.  Hags too back button to restart - I only can plug off the device.  BUT server still works - in Windows I see all files, and can copy them.

Any idea what I can do to NAS work normally?

Hello tkacziluzji

Have you tried using a different/alternate web browser, such as firefox, to access the web interface since updating the firmware?

also clearing your browser's cache may help in your situation

What firmware version did you update from?

Where you do have access to your data currently it is highly recommended that you copy/backup and critical data from the unit in case the firmware needs to be reinstalled through LenovoEMC support.

after copying any critical data I recommend resetting the unit using this guide if an alternate browser does not help.

Same issue here on my ix2! After having installed the latest FW upgrade (ix2-ng-4.1.106.31982.tgz) via the dashboard, it behaved weird (still configuring after +24hrs). According to LSM, my ix2 is not available. I've tried to logon to the dashboard using Safari and Chrome, but that only caused the webinterface to crash after umpt attempts (sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, now it doesn't).

I can still read, copy and write to the ix2 via Finder and Filezilla.

Haven't rebooted my ix2 yet as I fear data loss. Great FW update...

I try the reset from the back.  And ... symptoms of that are worrying:(

At 1st device ist still in configuring.

At 2nd I received messages "Device will be shut down because the temperature of the motherboard is 42°C / 107°F, and the maximum allowable temperature is C / 32°F".  Yes - correct :  MAXIMUM is ZERO Degree!!

What next??  Only LenovoEMC support?

Hello booreiland,  tkacziluzji, and stephenleungkc

Please contact LenovoEMC Support for further assistance.  If you do have access to your data you should backup as soon as possible, if you did not backup as advised before the firmware update.

Re: Lenovo IX2-DL after upgrade to 4.1.106. still configure

I have the exact same issue. Lucky I shared the drive and am able to do another back up of the to external drive.

I also get message unit is shutting down due to high temperature, but it's at 32C which is higer than max of zero

I also get Internal Fan Failure.

I let it run in this mode for 3 days & it's stil configuring.

When I go to the console to do anything it goes to the "Device is configuring..." then goes back to home page. I can't  do anything.

I am surprised that a firmware basically stopped the whole thing working. Lucky I am not using it for business critical apps.

I can't even go to the firmware update to go  back the older version.

HELP

Re: Lenovo IX2-DL after upgrade to 4.1.106. still configure

Most likely the problem is resolved by restoring a previous image to the NAS (lenovo support will send a link to a utility and image) and then once restored, upgrade to latest firmware and all will be well.

HOWEVER as for the backup suggestions i have a little something to say to that....

Btw.. Lenovo, do you realize how ridiculous it is to expect us to backup our data on our NAS (which we all mainly have as our backup device).   I have 12+TB and there is NO WAY i can backup my data prior to a firmware update.  I run a raid setup so i can lose a disk...

Personally I believe Lenovo should realize that importance of quality software testing and also take into account JUST HOW VALUABLE our data is on these devices.  Normal consumers don't buy these type of NAS devices just to store crap data; we are power users or data power users who got these type of devices to avoid worring about losing of our data.

sorry about the off topic rant but i get this feeling from Lenovo that they don't really test their firmware before publishing.  If I were to lose my data due to a firmware upgrade bug; Lenovo legal would be hearing from me.

TLDR: Lenovo, no we shouldn't need to backup our data you just need to TEST TEST TEST before you push out updates.  I work in the app deployment/image deployment world myself and i test the hell out of my deployments.
