Lenovo Iomega ix4-300d Drive Compatibility

2013-10-15, 20:22 PM

So, this is probably my fault, but here we go...

I recently purchased a Lenovo Iomega ix4-300d, and two (2) WD4001FAEX (Western Digital Black - 4TB ) to run in raid 1.  When I turn on the NAS with the drives inserted it does not recognize them.  I realized after the fact that these drives are not on the official support list for this NAS.  So, a couple of questions...

  • Do the HD's need to be pre-formatted before going into the NAS?
  • Has anyone had success with these drives?
  • As these drives are currently on the support list, is there any plan to add them in a firmware upgrade?

Any help would be great, so thanks ahead of time!

David

Hi xi_Slick_ix,

It is recommended to use approved drives so there won't be any compatibility issues, but sometimes it can work. You may need to clean the drives before installing them. Instructions are on the following link: Cleaning a hard disk for use with an ix or px network storage device

Thanks for the help!  The NAS immediately recognized the drives and started setting up an array.  Started yesterday around 5 PM and finished today around 11am I think.  It is reading 3.6TB of available space, which is right about where it should be.

Thanks again!

Is there a list of approved external drives for the PX4-300d.  I have a Seagate Backup Plus Ultra touch 1T and it is having issues.
