I tried resolving this with Iomega support team and they weren't very useful. They eventually said they would escalate the issue, and that was a month ago. I tried replying to the ticket with dead silence coming back.
I bought a ix4-300d, and (for various reasons) swapped its drives with different (supported) ones.
Unfortunately, I wiped all the original drives before realizing the firmware for the NAS was there, and I should have followed a sequential swap procedure. I know this was my mistake. I should have read the forums before doing that.
Now, the Lenovo rep tried to convince me that this had voided my warrantly, which I believe has no ground. Swapping drives is a valid operation, and making a mistake in that process cannot really be seen as a warranty voiding event.
At this point however I was still able to access the web interface, just not add the new drives back in.
After reading of a procedure to restore the firmware, I kept the reset button pressed for 30 seconds and that put the unit in a state where it's expecting a new firmware image.
When the unit comes up, a network icon and a USB stick icon appear on the LCD screen.
If I reboot and hold the reset button, the unit says "TFTP BOOT". However, I have tried to setup a TFTP server at a known address as suggested non the forums, and also tried to send the file through TFTP and nothing worked.
Can anyone please shed light onto the procedure to restore the unit ?
Any pointer appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing. Could you provide the incident number of your case so I can look into it further?
The warranty does state that it "excludes damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, use of non-Iomega approved media or replaceable components, exposure of media to excessive magnetic fields, or external environmental causes, or damage arising from any cause or causes for which Iomega is not responsible"
The only way to restore the unit is to reimage the firmware back on to the device. However, this process can only be done by technical support. I would recommend calling in to technical support instead of emailing, as it would be the best way to get support and resolve this issue.

thank you for your help.
This is the incident number:
I understand that Warranty can be voided, I just don't think I abused or misused the unit.

I think the best solution would be to install the original drives again and try a firmware imager on the device to reinstall the firmware. Trying to install or do the firmware imager on the new drives will not be supported. Only tech support can do this procedure so you can either call in or I can try to have someone get back to you on this incident.
