Y500: TouchPad not working or cursor seems to drift or jump sporadically

I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. But when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating.

I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for any drivers/software for the Y500 mouse pad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected.

Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Some Y500 units shipped before 2012/12/4 (label on the bottom cover) with an Elan brand touchpad may be affected by this issue.

You can navigate to Control Panel > Mouse to check your touchpad brand. This can be confirmed from the article link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT076627

If you are experiencing erratic touchpad performance, have already updated to the latest driver from the Lenovo support site,  have confirmed you have an Elan touchpad and verified that your system was built before December 2012, please contact service under warranty.   Service will confirm problem determination and will schedule service as appropriate.

The Synaptics touchpad also have a great many issues. It's not just the Elan brand. I've not seen a solution yet from Lenovo and there are thousands of customers having issues.

Newer Lenovo have the same issue with Elan 2H1319-03220D Rev. B or PK09000D210. Touchpad Replacemement did not solve issue. Lenovo B70-80
