Y580 Turbo Boost Does Not Work Unless Plugged In

While watching a HD youtube video I noticed the processor wasn't working properly and hence the video was stuttering. I checked with the intel turbo boost monitor, version 2.6, and it showed that even on Lenovo Dynamic Graphics power plan that the processor wasn't using turbo boost. When running on battery, the monitor also shows a green leaf and written underneath is "Energy Saver".

If I plug the charger into the laptop, this issue goes away and I can see the turbo boost working just fine and with it the leaf and the "Energy Saver" goes too.

I'd like to know why the turbo boost feature doesn't work while on battery and only on plugged in.

Intel turbo boost require more power than the battery can provide thus it only works when the AC is plugged in.
