BIOS update for Y530

2011-11-15, 23:43 PM

I have an Ideapad Y530 and need the most current BIOS to support 8GB of ram.  It runs but seems to be running backwards, it's so slow.  My current BIOS level is 10CN38WW, and I've seen others reference a higher level.

Any pointers to where I can get this would be greatly appreciated.

A BIOS update should be available in the future. There's just not ETA on it.

Any chance it will support custom RAM memory timing settings?

Even though that sounds like a great idea, I sincerely doubt that Lenovo will give the consumer a chance to "overclock" these laptops. I have read that such features can be unlocked by modifying the BIOS. A BIOS update from Lenovo would be great for this or extracting the BIOS for modification. I have tried the latter but have been unsuccessful. The BIOS on the Y530 is a new design for which utilities are not freely available. It utilizes AMI Aptio EFI BIOS.

You're processor will run at 1066Mhz, given that it's FSB is at that speed. I'm thinking that you meant RAM. There isn't an option in BIOS to overclock DDR2 RAM to those speeds, so I'm thinking that that's impossible. You do have the option of running DDR2 800MHz RAM. Read this for specifications from Intel. The diagram in the "Introduction" shows support for DDR2 667/800. Hope this helps.

I do have 800MHz DDR2 RAM running already, just looking for the way other than bios to overclock it.

You still have software overclocking as an option. Not sure if GM45/PM45 chipsets are supported yet.

Did a quick Google search and came across this....

MemSet might be of interest to you and it supports GM45/PM45

Where it is possible to download new version BIOS?

Does not wish to boot, if the USB-mouse is connected.

Current configuration:

BIOS: 10CN38WW - v220

CPU: T6400

RAM: DDR3 4Gb 1333Mhz Kingston (2x2048Mb)

What about that BIOS? Although hardware supports 8GB RAM, and I can run 32bit, PAE enabled system with 2x4GB RAM, it's unusable on 64bit system (very slowdown). This is problably due to bad memory mapping in DMI data. Does Lenovo plan to support that in new BIOS?
