Re: BIOS update for Y530

2012-03-19, 14:24 PM

Thanks for the reply.  I have searched the internet but your statement is the first I've seen that mentions the motherboard itself will not or may not accept 8gb.  I am aware that the BIOS does not support more than 4gb.

Is there documentation available on the web that shows the motherboard cannot accept 8gb?  If so, then I won't worry about upgrading this laptop any further.

I can confirm, that motherboard accepts 8Gb, memory is visible in memtest, but very slow

So, I hope, BIOS update should help

Hi all,

There is no new bios for the Y530.  It's still the same one that's on your machines.

Well what about an update to support 8gb in this machine? Other manufacturers have created new BIOS to fix their similar hardware with this problem.

An SSD on IDE. Really?  A louder scream for an update comes from a BIOS that can't find an SSD when set to AHCI.

8gb will not work properly in the machine thanks to no updated BIOS. 6gb works perfectly though.

Cheers

Lenovo at one point DID have a bios out there for the Y530. It got pulled off the web a couple years ago for some reason. The machine also does not support HW VT due to bios limits set by Lenovo. I DO have a modded bios that I use that does support HW VT. Middleton created the bios and I would be happy to send it to anyone with a Y530 that wants HW VT in their Y530. Just pm me. YMMV applies.

Hi,
I'm wonderign, If there is any chance to get new drivers for Windows 8 and BIOS uograde for Y530.
Did enyone know something abaut it? Will Lenovo relese this kind of support or not?

I'm asking because Windows 8 is faster than Vista or 7 on my Y530 (T6500,nV 9600 GS M) but I can't use my machine properly without drivers - these from W7/Vista don't work well.

It will be also nice to get BIOS upgrade - wich will allow Y530 users to use more than 6GB RAM without problems.

I'm also very interested in BIOS update for IdeaPad Y530 (with 8GB RAM and Windows 8 support).

Lenovo crew, anybody?
