Re: Backing up Z500 Touch Hdd

Is it just me, or is the evozi.com link not working? A bootable OKR 8.0 is exactly what I need; since I have a backup on an external hard drive. Is there another link available?

I googled it and can't find anything that looks like it works.  I tried downloading something called OKR8 Engineer from pirate bay and that didn't work.

Did the evozi site have additional instructions on what to do?

Also, for someone that doesn't know Linux, how would you copy the partitions to the OKR8_USB_Recovery folder?

I think the site is gone. I have check a few seconds ago, you can try downloading it from this link. As to how to copy files in Linux you can go to their site on how to go about it. Note that the stated partitions will appear as folders in Linux, thus you can access them and copy the files.

As soon as I hit the post button, I realized it was silly of me to ask how to copy the partitions - I just need to google how to use linux.

I did download some kind of Ubuntu verstion to a bootable USB, but haven't been able to get it to boot properly to actually use it.  It gives me a lot of command prompt errors, so I'm still working on that piece of it for now.

Thank you for finding that link.  I couldn't tell from the post what the actual file name was and was looking in cached versions of the evozi site to see if I could dig it up.

For reference, I'm trying to replace the stock 1TB HDD with a 500GB SSD and keep that OKR functionality.  Your guide has been the best hope I've seen of how to do it, but I'm a little rusty on this stuff.  I haven't dug this deep into a computer since the 80's.

Thank you for the help.

The file name is "WIN8_OKR8.0(Without_OS)_130106_evozi.com.iso". The Linux program is just the demo or what they call as the Live CD version.

A couple quick questions to clarify the DIY Project: Creating a bootable OKR 8 Recovery...(Rev 1.1) ...

In step X-b (editing the create.ini file), it says:

"create partition primary size=100000" but the file has several "create partitition primary" entries and none of them say "100000"  I'm guessing that it's the "50000" one listed below?  For a 500GB drive where I want to make the C: drive 200gb and the D: drive the rest available, would I make that number 200000?

Here is the create.ini file:

select disk 0
clean
convert gpt
create partition primary size=1000
format quick fs=ntfs label="WINRE_DRV"
assign letter="T"
set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
create partition efi size=260
format quick fs=fat32 label="System"       <=== looks like this is the "System" that gets changed to "System_DRV"
assign letter="S"
create partition primary size=1001           <=== Is it important to change to "1000" per the HDD Replacement Guide 2.2?
format quick fs=fat32 label="LRS_ESP"
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
assign letter="Q"
create partition msr size=128
create partition primary size=50000           <==== Is this the one to change (in my case to 200000)?
format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows8_OS"
assign letter="W"
create partition primary
format quick fs=ntfs label="Lenovo"
assign letter="O"
shrink minimum=20000                 <==== Looks like this changes to 20480?
create partition primary
format quick fs=ntfs label="PBR_DRV"
assign letter="R"
set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
list volume
select disk 0
list partition
sel par 3
set id="BFBFAFE7-A34F-448A-9A5B-6213EB736C22"
list disk
sel disk 0
list volume
sel volume 7
assign letter=Q
list volume
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
sel par 3
set id="BFBFAFE7-A34F-448A-9A5B-6213EB736C22"
gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
exit

Thank you very much for your help!

If you want C to be 200 GB see the changes in red ink that you have to make in the create.ini:

Here is a diagram showing what the original create.ini does.

Hi. I have followed the advice in message 29 and have gotten the one key recovery to work. However upon choosing the backup file it said program cannot restore the system partition becase there is not enough space in the hard drive. I dont get it. The backup file is about 600+gb but my remaining space is upwards of 800gb
