Bios password

2018-03-22, 13:05 PM

I have an issue with my BIOS on Lenovo IdeaPad z580. Somehow a password has been set. Lenovo told me that they havent set the password. The store that i have bought the laptop told me that they havent set the password. I havent set the password. SO question No1. How has this password been set at the first place and Question No2 how to remove it/bypass it/ or find it?? Thank you

Hi George_Argy,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

From the time machine is released from the factory, the BIOS are always set to blank. Passwords are security options provided to individual users as they like it to be personalized depending on their need. Z580 model was release way back 2012 so most likely there were previous users that may have placed it before.

Take note that for the same security reason that Lenovo do not have any tool or any master password to reset it other than the user to type it in. On most cases that I have seen with the same issue, most ended up with replacement of the motherboard.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Has anyone else used the machine?  Could this be someone's idea of a practical joke?

Is it possible that someone previously purchased the laptop and returned it to the store before you brought it?

if the box was not sealed when purchase. Then someone was into it. Only you can answer that and if you don't remember then its likely if was returned as many place will take them back if not satisfied within 15 days or less if everything is as new. The reset to factory defaults the OS image but may not have verified that the bios PW was set before refunding the previous buyer.

But after the time you are stuck if you need to access the bios. New motherboard only to allow access.
