Bluescreens with Z510 from the beginning on: NVIDIA-Driver?

2013-12-03, 19:50 PM

since I got my Lenovo Idepad Z510 I am having one bluescreen a day (VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR and DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE) and also crashes with scratchy noise from the speakers, having the cursor first hanging a bit and then fully stopping. In 50% of the reboots from Standby-Mode the system also crashes. This happened with the OEM-Config of Windows 8 ans also after Update on Windows 8.1. It does not stop neither with NVIDIA-drivers updated (first driver of LENOVO-Website, then automatic driver-update of windoes and finally the newest driver from NVIDIAs Website). Automatic update of the HD-4600-graphics card did not do any effect neither.

The crashes occur generally in normal use of Windows or Office and not when watching Youtube or Movies or Playing 3D-Games such as Stacraft II.

Since I don't know nearly nothing abour hardware and driver issues I relly need your help.

This is the crash-report-summary of "WhoCrashed":

34 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.82 , NVIDIA Corporation)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

These are example-crash-reports of "WhoCrashed":

On Tue 03.12.2013 09:04:52 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x1419BE)
Bugcheck code: 0x113 (0x19, 0x2, 0x10DE, 0x1292)
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.82
company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.82
Bug check description: This indicates that the dxg kernel has detected a violation.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.82 , NVIDIA Corporation).

On Sun 01.12.2013 22:23:57 GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\120113-13312-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x14DCA0)
Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFE000013DE060, 0xFFFFD000206FA840, 0xFFFFE000016B2630)
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Windows Reliabilty Report gives e.g. this output:

"0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xffffe000013de060, 0xffffd000206fa840, 0xffffe000016b2630"

or this:

"name:    BlueScreen
Code:    9f
Parameter 1:    3
Parameter 2:    ffffe000013cf880
Parameter 3:    ffffd0002069bb90
Parameter 4:    ffffe000068fccc0"

What can I do more?

Thanks for help!

Re: Bluescreens with Z510 from the beginning on: NVIDIA-Driver?

hi Simon,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you have the Ideapad Z510 as discussed in this review, can you try to disable the Nvidia display adapter by doing one of the following:

1. Navigate to Device Manager > Display Adapter > Nvidia GeForce GT 740M (right click > disable)

2. Boot into the BIOS > Configuration Tab > Graphic Device > UMA Only (if applicable)

If the machine is stable without the Nvidia GPU active, there's probably an issue with the GPU chip. To verify this, try running a stress test on the GPU using 3DMark (you can set the Nvidia to use the Windows Driver, the Lenovo windows 8.1 driver, or the GPU driver from the Nvidia website).

If the BSOD appears during the stress test, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings.

Betreff: Bluescreens with Z510 from the beginning on: NVIDIA-Driver?

2013-12-08, 13:09 PM

Hey Simon,

I had similar problems starting with the very first boot in Win 8.1.
I own it since the 26th November and it produced 9 bluescreens yet. Once a day approx...

But now I tried the new 331.93 driver by nvidia. I use it since 4-5 days now and so far nothing crashed again. To bad its only a beta driver, otherwise im satisfied now.

The bluescreens mainly appeared when I installed something like drivers and stuff. One driver instantly produced a crash: The Logitech driver for my MX518 mouse. I tried it 2 times, it crashed 2 times then. Tried the new beta driver, installed the Logitech driver again and it didnt crash.

I also had the problem (when my Notebook didnt shut down properly (like a crash)), that my keyboard wont work after a reboot. Sometimes it took like 3-4 reboots to get it working again. This also stopped with the beta driver. Well, it didnt crash again ;)

The 740M is not listed as supported, but it works for me.

Good luck!

Exactly the same problems: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR error and sometimes keyboard not working. For me it seems that it happens more frequently with the latest NVIDIA driver, the one on Lenovo website is a bit better, but the problem is still there.

Same Problem here.

- Blue Screen

- Keyboard not working or stops working

- Windows starts to freeze (start of programs not possible)

Other sources suggest to deinstall nvidia and Intel Drivers...?

Please help!
