Brightness function problem (y580)

2012-09-11, 3:00 AM

Hello,

I've had my Ideapad Y580 for a little over a month. Unfortunately, I cracked the screen within the first few weeks. I ended up buying a new screen online (not through Lenovo) and replacing it myself. Now I am having trouble with the screen brightness keys. If I hold Fn and press the up key, the brightness jumps to the highest setting. If I hold Fn and press the down key, the brightness jumps to a much lower setting; there is no in between. The screen will only toggle between two settings: really bright or really dim. The volume keys still work just fine. I'm not even sure if this is related to the new screen; it's just the only thing I could think of. Any advice?

Hi,

you could try uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Management

and  then re-installing it.

See if that helps.

I gave that a shot. Unfortunately, it did not work. It's strange because I still get the bar showing that I'm scrolling through the varioius brightness settings, it just doesn't actually switch between them all. Even stranger, to me, like I said, I am still able to toggle between the different levels of volume; it's just the screen brightness that doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Does the screen brightness change correctly when you are in the power control panel?

Sorry. Just want to make sure I understand the question. Do you simply mean when I have the window open where I would change when the computer sleeps, hibernates, etc.? If so, it still doesn't change correctly with that open.

Link to picture

If that does not work, then, you may have connected the screen inccorectly, or the screen is defective, or not capatible with your motherboard.

Nope. That didn't work either. It still jumps from the highest to lowest setting. I suppose I will take it apart and make sure it is connected correctly. If that doesn't work, is there anyway to find out if it's not compatible with my motherboard? If so, how might I fix that issue? Thanks for your help.

What screen did you buy and what is the exact computer model or motherboard model.

Where you able to fix the problem? I had sent my computer back to Lenovo, and after I got it back I started to get this problem.
