CD / DVD ROM drive make HORRIBLE noise...

2008-08-20, 21:54 PM

I just got my Y510 today and i'm getting it ready for my needs.... I thought I would test out the DVD drive and put in a movie... Well, the dang thing makes a horrible vibrating noise as it reads the disk...  Now what?

Does anyone elses make this noise or is it just mine?   If that's jus the way it is, then I cant imagine ever being able to watch a movie on it...

Can anyone weigh in on this?

Hi.

This happens due to Windows wish to read disk at maximum speed even if it is not needed.

Try this to calm the drive down.

I just got my Y510 a few days ago, and am also having this same problem. I'm wondering if it's a defect or normal behavior for this drive???

Please let us know when/if/how you got this resolved.

thx

Re: Dvd drive on Y510 Question?

kojio, Discspeed is an utility to show quality of disc and to test drive's fitness - how fast it burns, reads, corrects C2 errors , etc.

Drivespeed is for tuning speed in case when you need noise reduction.

Noise while spinning and working is a normal - it's like noise when car is boosting.
