Can not find Dragon Assistant on Lenovo y510p

2014-03-08, 23:26 PM

I have been trying to solve this issue for the last few hours. I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad y510p (Windows 8.1). Normally Dragon Assistant comes preinstalled on this laptop. It is even advertised by several retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and Costco (same sku). However, I can not find this software anywhere on my laptop.

After talking to three different Lenovo support technicians, we came to the conclusion that the software was lost with the windows 8.1 update. They still did not know of any way to obtain Dragon Assist, as it is not sold by Nuance and is only a preinstalled software.

Does anyone know who I can get in touch with to obtain Dragon Assistant? I plan to call Nuance on Monday but I believe they will just redirect me to Lenovo. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I called Lenovo support again. After two hours and talking to 8 different people, this issue is going to be resolved by returning my laptop for one that hopefully has everything it is suppose to. Thanks for all the comments.....

I've talked to Nuance any the are "in the processes of figuring out my problem". Customer service is suppose to get in touch with me. Does anyone at Lenovo know how to get Dragon Assistant? Its preinstalled software, someone has access to it.

If you look on the Nuance home page, you can see that it's only supported on Win 8, not 8.1.

"Operating Systems: Windows 8, 32-bit and 64-bit"

http://www.nuance.com/dragon/dragon-assistant/index.htm#!sysreq_OS

There's really nothing that Lenovo can do for this issue. It's in the hands of Nuance to upgrade their software to work on Windows 8.1.

Cheers,

I have checked Nuance's website several times, and talked to multiple reps about this. They do not differentiate between Windows 8 and 8.1 in there specifications section, and Dragon Assistant is in fact Windows 8.1 compatible.

As the manfactuer of the laptop, which is preinstalled with Windows 8.1, Lenovo is responsible for what programs are preloaded on it. As a special deal with Nuance, select manufactuers are able to preload their systems with beta software Dragon Assistant which is not availible anywhere else. Meaning Lenovo is not responsible for the programs functionality, however they do in fact have the authority to provide this software.

Helping me with this problem is not impossible, it has been solved in the past on these forms before.

I am just looking to receive the software that the machine I purchased from Lenovo is suppose to have.

I have been continuing to contact Nuance about this issue. They told me that they are unable to provide me with an installer for Dragon Assistant. Quote, " Only your original equipment manufacturer could give you that installer."

Hi there,

Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same problem. I'm within a return window and am considering chalking this up as a learning experience...

Between the flaky touchpad, I can't find ultrabays (legit ones), and the missing software I feel like I got a bit swindled.

Hardware is nice, the keyboard is great, and if these things were to be fixed I'd be fine but jeez out of the box to have to deal with problems for $1000+ is just a PITA...
