Convert Y510 C / D partition to one partition keeping programs / data

2009-10-31, 16:23 PM

I have a Y510 and it has a very small C partition and a large D partition.   I would like to have either one C partition for the entire drive or a way to alter the Partition sizes.  I would also like to be able to do this without having to reload the entire system programs and data.

Thanks, and best regards,

Hi Gary,

I had the same problem. I solved it by buying the Paragon Partition manager software (about $40), then I changed the partitions(I added space to the C partition so that it would not become full with updates of windows etc).  I did not have to reload any programs and did not  lose any data. This program lets you change the boundaries of the partitions.  There is a thread on this board about this subject and if you need help, go there and ask your questions.

I struggled with the same problem for months. The operating system on C expands at an alarming rate. I got rid of the partitions by using the disc  manager program built into Vista (the same for Windows 7).

First delete the D partition and if you like the recovery partition. Next still using disc manager expand the C partition.

It only takes minutes but back up any files you had on D to an external disc or flash drive but be careful. Most back ups also include the original partition info and will simply re-create the partitions you are trying to get rid of. Also clean system restore because that will put the partitions back.

I now have a 230GB C drive which I can partition any way I want, I got rid of the recovery partition because that would restore the partitions if used. Instead, when I had finished and cleaned everything, I made a new disc image on my external drive.

warning: if you make any changes on volumes, one key recover system may stop working.
