DVD-R formatting issues - Lenovo Y510P

2015-03-05, 10:38 AM

When i insert my blank DVD-R to DVD-ROM Drive Windows shows the Dialogue box

"How do you want to use this disk?"
1. Like a USB Flash Drive
Save, edit and delete files on the disc anytime. The disc will
work on computers running windows xp or later. (Live File System)

2. With a CD/DVD Player
Burn files in groups and individual files can’t be edited or
removed after burning. The disc will also work on most computers. (Mastered)

When i select option 1. Like a USB Flash Drive
An other Dia logue box will apear

Formatting(0 Bytes)
on DVD RW Drive (G:)
Preparing to format

and it keeps going ??

Can anyone help in sorting this issue ?

hi vaibhavj,

Can you try the following:

1. Insert another blank DVD-R disc and run the CD/DVD Fix it troubleshooter then follow the screen prompts.

2. If you're using a generic DVD-R disc, Consider using a different DVD-R disc brand (eg. Sony, Verbatim etc.) and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

After this, when I tried to write over dvd disc, it still has the same issue as shown in below screenshot :-

I will try your 2nd solution by buying an another company dvd disk and lets see if it helps .

No, actually it didn't. Even I got Sony DVD, the issue still was there , so I tried change DVD region in properties to "India", and after this, it actually stopped reading discs also

Can you please tell why this happened ?

hi there,

It's appears that the DVD drive is regioned locked via DRM (i.e., If the DVD player is designed to play movies only made in the U.S., and you moved to India, you won't be able to play DVD movies that were created in India).

As for writing data on the disc, try to use imgburn or similar software to burn files. If you're still stucked at the formatting section then it's likely that there's a problem with the lens that writes data to the disc or some other component of the ODD. In this case, I recommend you contact lenovo for service.
