dveda, sure that methods will work for you. That info will make you good.

You can repartition your HDD not reinstalling Windows - use PartedMagic boot CD.

If you  don't need NOVO button you can just delete service partition by PartedMagic.

You can mburn your own recovery DVD with new OKR - locate it two posts above.

Ann,

Does the partitioning progam wipe the C drive clean and leave the D drive intact or does it wipe everything clean?

dveda,

The partitioning affected both drives. However, the system files (on the C drive) were left intact. Documents and applications that I added were wiped clean. That's why you need to back up anything you have added before performing the partition. The application I used (Partition Commander), repeatedly warned me of this, and gave me plenty of opportunity to perform a back-up.

Ann

skripatch,

You didn;t understand my question which was addressed to Ann who used a program to make a c partition larger. The question is not whether the novo wipes out both drives, but whether if you use that program to make the C partition larger, it also wipes out data on the D drive. Ann mentioned that she lost some data when she did the repartitioning. I have indeed read the first posting in this series.

All,

Ed is correct - there are updates on the horizen for both the desktop and notebooks which will provide either a single C drive, or adjust the C drive size to account for the majority of the drive space.  Exact implementation  and distribution details could vary between notebook / desktops.   This looks like it will be a matter of several weeks barring unforseen delays.

Has there been any new developments regarding this update?  Timeframe?

That's first option. Second is making a recovery DVD beforehand in Windows, using OKR 6 software.
