Re: Disk Partioning and OneKey Recovery Feature

2008-09-20, 11:51 AM

Got a big problem with my ideapad.

I just purchased My IdeaPad Y530 on 17/09/2008 (it's been just 3 days) here in Turkey. the SATA C drive was something like 188 GB and the D was like 40 GB. and I downloaded Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 and wanted to divide the C drive so that I would be able to merge the divided partition with my D drive... But God... After a time, when I boost , it gave the error "A disck read error occurred"  every time. and then I hit the Onekey Resc. trying to get back my settings to the very beginnig, but I couldn't.  now When I hit the "novo" key, The OneKey resc. doesn't work. and I can't boost my laptop because now it warns "BOOSTMGR is missing". Can't open my brand new notebook.

Can anyone help me here?

Having followed this forum for a long time, I think you are toast.  I recommend you ask Lenovo to give you (send you) the recovery discs for your ideapad model and that you restore your drives from scratch with their help.  After that, go through this endless forum to get a feel for all the pitfalls of this bad idea (I mean the default partitioning), and make sure you always back up your C disk before you attempt any new experiments (I have not tried the new okr utilities so I cannot vouch for them).  Back around pages 13-16 of this forum you will find some useful postings by janicej (one of the most rational members I found) and by skripatch (who wasn't always nice, but who always tried to be helpful in his own "grumpy" way).  Good luck.

Why did I keep typing "boost" in stead of "boot" throughout the msg above?    Sorry about that...   Morphology! you're killing me...

I just got my S10 yesterday.  First thing I do is to uninstall Norton then install Kaspersky, MS office and firefox.  After that, I try to use the onekey recovery function to do a full system backup.  It gave me bluescreen.  I try to scandisk and defragment my harddisk and do it again.  It just keep doing bluescreen on my S10.  Is there any patch for Onekey recovery 6?  This is a serious bug and I can't believe it got slipped through.

Please, still awaiting Lenovo's solution.

Seeing comments from many customers, but nothing has been entered by Lenovo support for some time now.

Update, please

Dear Keyi -- yes it will.  Restore is to the factory load, nothing else.  Those of you thinking that it is a backup of anything you add to your system are living in a dream world.  One key is a restore to factory option only.  For current updates on the one key, go to the Lenovo support site.  There are some files for download there.  Read carefully though about what they represent.

Re: Disk Partioning and OneKey Recovery Feature

I found adware in the OneKey Recovery software I downloaded from Lenovo. I'm running Avast antivirus software and while installing the software it detected the following file as adware,

C:\Program Files\Lenovo\OneKey App\OneKey Recovery\Image.dll

The installation fails when Avast detects the file. If I disable the antivirus it installs fine and I can create my recovery image files. For now I've just excluded that 1 file from Avast real-time scanning and enabled Avast again.

But I'm worried, is this adware real, has the software been compromised that Lenovo is providing?

This is from my thread @
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Windows&thread.id=1340

I thought it was relevant to this thread, that's why I posted it here. ( I found the link to download this software in this thread)
