Does opening up an IdeaPad Y500 void the warranty?

2015-03-08, 19:27 PM

Would opening up my IdeaPad Y500 void the warranty?

Say, for example, if I wanted to remove a speaker. That would mean dismantling almost everything from the system board. This wouldn't void the warranty, would it?

The only documents I can find online don't mention anything about taking apart the system. Here they are:

Otherwise, the product page for the Y500 just says "For a copy of applicable warranties, write to: Lenovo Warranty Information, 1009 Think Place, Morrisville, NC, 27560."

This is a little ridiculous.

I understand that there are "customer replaceable units". This implies that the unit can be taken apart by the customer; is this correct?

Good day.

For reference, you may wish to have a look at your hardware manual:

Starting on manual page 76, you'll see the parts listing and the CRU designation of each. Those items marked with one or two asterisks are considered CRU.

Hope this helps.
