IdeaPad Z500 FAN fast and slow cycle (rpm).

2013-10-06, 0:44 AM

I updated my Z500 to the latest BIOS updated, all worked perfect except now the FAN has some seriosu problem...the fan always runs fast then slow then fast in 10 seconds intervals all the time, I am getting crazy. It does not run at a stable/uniform speed, let's say 2000RPM. It's like 2000RPM for 10 seconds then 4000RPM, it's a cycle.

I don't have the old BIOSbackup nor the version that was installed, it was the factory BIOS.

Does Lenovo provide a tool/software to re-flash old version? and if it does, where can I find my factory/old bios?

Hi Vegeta,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that the FAN is not working as expected in your Z500 Laptop, once after upgrading the BIOS it cannot be reverted back, but the one thing that you can try is resetting the BIOS to its default settings and check if the issue persists, to access BIOS press NOVO button located at the left hand side of the laptop and then after accessing BIOS utility press “F9” Key and select YES, also click on “F10” Key and select YES. Then the computer will automatically restart, check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

hi, I have followed the instructions which you ahev given. The problem still persists. I even tried it with Linux Live CD and it does the same. It's not a software problem (Intel Management Engine, Windows, etc).  I am 100% sure it's BIOS problem.

I do not know what to do, before I had a normal desktop with Gygabyte Motherboard, and they provided a special tool to revert /flash any old bios versions. At least I need the factory bios backup, or factory version ofthe bios.

I bought this pc a second hand and I am not sure if it's under guarentee yet.
