Download the Intel Video driver from this site (Version: 9.17.10.2932).  It will tell you that you have a more recent version but install it anyway.  It works!

Yeah!  I have litterally spent several hours over multiple days on the phone with both Microsoft and with Lenovo to get this problem fixed.  And, they have not been able to figure it out.  Sure enough, he is correct.  Update using this driver and I am very excited to report that I can once again adjust my screen brightness.  Time to do a OneKey Rescue System save!  I didn't even have to re-start the computer for the brightness to come back.  I am so happy.  Thanks!

Re: Ideapad P400 Brightness Problem

I was working very well with this 9.17.10.2932 version for some weeks until yesterday when I wanted to use my WiDi device. I installed the new driver of WiDi for windows 8.1 (you need to do it manually), but it does no work with the 9.17.10.2932 driver. As  consequence, I can't use my TV to see movies right now.

I'm not sure what other issues can appear now, but I hope Lenovo will fix it very soon. I called them to ask if P400 will stop their support for Windows 8.1, and they assured me they will support windows 8.1. I hope that because it would be very dissapointed they abandone us.

Re: Ideapad P400 Brightness Problem

I had the brightness adjustment problem on my p400 a while back when I upgraded drivers.  I used recommendations above and corrected.  I now have a netgear PTV3000 Push2TV and find when I use any driver upgrades, etc. to recognize the device I lose the brightness control AND I cannot see the PTV3000.  Very frustrating as Push2TV is important to me for presentations,  long HDMI cables all over are a pain.  I hope something comes through soon to allow everthing to work together.

You can reinstall the old Windows 8 video driver: 9.17.10.2932 available on the Lenovo site, but you will not be able to do many things as using Windows Display (WiDi) for instance. So far, despite claims, Lenovo has decided to abandone their customers. There are no drivers for Windows 8.1 for this model so far (Just for who have the Nvidia card version).

I am very disspainted with Lenovo support because, my P400 was obsolete after 6 months being purchased. I'm considering other brand for my next purchase.

Re: Ideapad P400 Brightness Problem

I called lenovo and asked if this laptop has any global warranty since I'm travelling in other country now. They told me this P series are only available in North America. I guess this sort of answered question why they abandoned us...We are the only victims...At the very beginning I thought it was something wrong with the LED light, so I visited the lenovo service centers. Guess what? The technicians told me all the Canadian-wide lenovo service centers only deal with the thinkpad and all the ideapad has to be mailed in to get fixed...Then why the warranty was written in a way telling us that we can have mail-in and carry-in service in the lenovo service center? Such a liar...
