Re: Ideapad Y400 keyboard auto typing and out of control for a short time

2013-01-20, 6:18 AM
A Lenovo rep. diagnosed it as a hardware issue and I've arranged for an exchange, this was 2 weeks ago but I was slow to update. I'm waiting for the new one to arrive still. It was on a Canadian keyboard (English/French bilingual).

The problem seems to only be occurring on a fraction of them so I was just unlucky.

Hi there!

I think I may know how to solve your issue and this fix may be valid with Ideapad Y400 and Y500.

1. Enter BIOS.

2. Restore to Default values and check that "Always ON USB" is OFF.

3. Save and exit.

4. Turn Off your laptop.

5. Remove battery and AC cable for 1 hour.

6. Replace battery and AC cable.

7. Turn on and enjoy! :smileywink:

That worked for me and I really hope this fix does the trick for you. Don't forget to post your result and see if this solution solves the keyboard issue. :smileytongue:

Hi Lenovo users!

My problem was that the keyboard goes out of control and auto typing certain characters, sometimes the date was autotyped when i worked in a .txt file, my first thought was that the problem where a spyware (keylogger or something).

Just follow the steps posted by ziegs, in my case (Lenovo Y400), in the step 2 my BIOS menu shows Restore Setup

and Restore Factory values, i just restore both and it works.

thanks ziegs

Hi titomanzx!

I'm glad to know that my solution fixed your crazy keyboard problem. :smileyvery-happy:

It's a common issue among Y400 owners if we enable ALWAYS ON USB, maybe it's an electrical design flaw, I hope someone from Lenovo could help us discover why this feature is a con instead of a plus. :smileyfrustrated:

People, please post your results with my fix and see if we can get this post sticked or something like that and make it easy to find for anyone who have this issue. :smileytongue:

had the same problem on Lenovo Z570. Mouse would stop working and letter 'W' would be typed automatically.

Problem went away when I changed AC adapter source. Earthing and grounding of your power source might be the problem.

I has been 3 days only though. Will inform if problem comes back.

I am using Lenovo Thinkpad T440p, and the same problem occurs for me as well.

I have another client who uses the similar model, not the P version, and the problem happens as well.

I guess the always-on-USB may seem to be the culprit!
