Ideapad Y500 won't charge

2012-12-31, 23:16 PM

Posted last message in the wrong section,

Just opened the box to be surprised by a non-functioning laptop.

So I can't use my brand new laptop.

This thing is a $1000 paperweight.

What the hell Lenovo? Get your act together.

I want a replacement ASAP.

Any ideas ideapad gurus?

Only 4 and a half hours and you blow up and whine to the lenovo COMMUNITY forums? I hate to break it to you but nobody from Lenovo ACTUALLY posts here. The mods don't even work for lenovo. As for us normal people here for the hell of it, sorry we aren't logging in hourly on new years eve. And you gave us laptop won't charge as your problem description. Well great, what the hell are we supposed to tell you? Make sure you plugged your power supply in correctly? Make sure your battery is installed? Make sure you pushed the power button? Sorry about your defective device. Lenovo sucks we know. Thats why the rest of us are here. We got suckered into it too. Lucky for you, yours is defective. With a little more luck you can get it returned and refunded and unlike us, buy another brand.

Hi Unimpressed,

could you describe your problem in more detail? It can be actually similar to mine: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Y580-doesn-t-charge-and-doesn-t-detect-the-charger/td-p/971277

Regards,
Piotr

Is this your rant on the Y500? Why don't you just ask for a replacement? Have you tried another charger if its a faulty charger?

i had the same issue...in my case i could not re-access the "lenovo energy management" in the bottom right hand icon...& what you need to do is unclick "optimize battery life" & select the other option (i can't remember).

so what i did to be able to access lenovo energy management was go into c drivers & find the lenovo energy management folder...then re-run set up & choose "repair" instead of install

now the button appears in the lower right hand side...then choose maxximize battery life instead  of optimize battery life.

so the problem is basically every time i want to use this energy management i have to "re-install it" bc it goes away when i shet down but once you know where to go find it it is pretty easy...i'll probably just keep a shortcut to it on my desktop
