Ideapad Y510p 170W battery

2014-05-29, 11:09 AM

Hi all,

I was wondering if it is bad to use the 170W adapter without the second graphics card inserted in the ultrabay.

Thanks !

hi MrDanV8,

IMO, it's fine to use the 170W adapter even if you don't have the secondary graphics adapter inserted (via ultrabay) as the machine will not fully utilize all that power.

If you have the GT750m working on full load, the system will most likely use approx.120W only (the GT750m has a 50W TDP) --the remaining power will then act as a reserve.

Regards

Yeah, it should not be an issue to use the higher rated adapter with your single GPU laptop.
