Re: Ideapad Z580 stuck on Boot Menu after BIOS update attempt

2016-09-12, 0:42 AM

Didn't work for me.  There seems to be no way to access the BIOS after updating to Windows 10.  Lenovo says call Microsoft.  Microsoft says call Lenovo.  Me, the customer, is stuck in the middle.

Novo button doesn't work for this problem.  It's deeper than that.  Novo gets you the menu to update BIOS etc.  But whatever you select, the computer ignores it and boots from the HD.  This is a UEFI issue.  I'd love to see Lenovo support weigh in on this one.

I had the same problem as described in this topic.

Thanks for help - setting it to LEGACY helped me and now Windows downloads normal.

But I wonder whether I still have to do something with BIOS or let it be? Becuase i ran that public file and I suppose it made some changes in BIOS and can affect laptop/system work somehow. Or is it OK and I shouldn't touch it now?

Re:Ideapad Z580 stuck on Boot Menu after BIOS update attempt

I found simple fix! I updated my daughters 310-15ABR with a new ssd & decided to check the drivers I found a bios update and not seeing any warning notifications proceeded. It locked on the bios screen after every restart right after the lenovo logo. Heres what worked for me.

use the “tab” button to go to Applications menu & enter to select. Scroll right looking for a menu listing “boot mode”

it should be UEMI or LEGACY. In my case it was uemi. Arrow down to highlight the setting and hit enter. Select the one you didn’t have, in my case LEGACY. Arrow over to exit and hit the FN and F10 buttons to exit & save. Other things to check are that yo boot drive is listed 1st and the time is correct. I’m not a tech by any stretch of the imagination but this simple step alleviated a costly visit to a shop and let there be no doubt the laptop was stuck on the initial boot menu! Hope this helps someone who’s heart is pounding and freaking out like I was.
