Keyboard, keys, unwanted charaters, Z500, Win 8

2014-10-05, 16:38 PM

Hi Everyone,

any help appreciated!

Problem:

1. Sporadically a long line, never ending, of "q"s is inserted into text files, input fields such as browser search, the Windows logon field when starting up

2. The Q/q key does not work - nothing is entered when pressed

3. When logging on to Windows the password is shown correctly but is not accepted by Windows. The password is accepted by Windows if the password is entered using a USB keybaord. In both cases the password is displayed by Windows correctly. (The passowrd does not contain Q/q)

4. Some other keys occasionally do not work (nothing is accepted by the system)

Additional info:

The Windows mouse keyboard works fine (the keyboard you can click with a mouse shows all keys working properly)

(German machine with German keyboard layout)

- Lenovo Ideapad
- Z500/P500

- Win 8
- Model name: 5931 (on back of laptop)
- S/N: xxxxx
- P/N: 59351906
- MO: CB02121285

Tried already:

- Replaced keyboard (bought new one)

- Reinstalled Windows

- Virus check

- Checked system drivers

I think this is a difficult one, anybody got any ideas?

Thanks!

M

Sounds like you got a stuck key.

If you have warranty, call them up.

Else, look into AHK and remap the Q key to do nothing and one of your Fx keys to be your new Q key.

Thank you for the quick reply, but as mentioned in the post I have already replaced the entire keyboard. Also remapping the key would not solve the strange login problem (where the Q/q is not used).

Does anyone know - what happens after a key has been pressed? What is the next step, is there something else that could be broken or damaged? Something deeper than the keyboard itself? Or a software problem?

I will probably send the laptop in to lenovo at the end of the week for investigation, but if anyone can help it would be really appreciated. Thanks again for your input.

Just for closure...

I sent the laptop back to lenovo.

They replaced the upper case and repaired the mainboard.

Damage caused by liquid.

Took about  5 weeks and cost 222 EUR.

But OK, as it was self-inflicted damage
