Laptop shuts down abruptly.

2017-08-14, 20:55 PM

I am using lenovo z51 for about a year now. But from 2 days im observing some irregularities in my laptop. When i launch any game on my laptop it shuts down instantly without any error message and if intry to start it back it shows the Lenovo logo and then shuts off again with a click noise. Ibcannot even access the bios settings. However i am able to start the laptop after 15 minutes of rest, but as soon as i launch any game it shuts off again.

I checked and there is no issue of overheating, i use a laptop cooler and i checked the temperature with flir thermal camera and the temperature we all normal.

Please anyone can give me a clue or soulution to my problem is appreciated.

Hello Bhush4n

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try running an LSC scan, see if thisi s able to find anything for you at all. Should still work in Win 10.

1. Please click on the following link

2. Under the section ‘Download’ select the relevant Hyperlink dependant on whether your Lenovo is running Windows 7/8/8.1 32 bit or 64 bit.
3. When prompted, select save and browse to a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.
4. Navigate to the folder where you saved the installation file, lscsetup_x86_26001.exe.
5. Double-click the installation file icon to start the installation.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions via the installation wizard that will install Lenovo Solution Centre on your system.
7. Once installed you will have a ‘Lenovo Solution Centre’ icon on your desktop please click to open this.
8. Once solution center is opened please select ‘Checkup’ then ‘Hardware Scan’ and ‘Full Scan’
9. This will take up to 20 minutes, see if this can find any errors.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Sounds like it could be a polyfuse. (a resettable type of fuse) Either there is a problem causing it to trip, or it's gone bad. Normally a polyfuse takes 10-15 minutes to reset.

It's a resettlabe fuse. It does so automatically. If it's bad, it has to be replaced. This is rarely the issue, but I have seen a few lenovo systems with bad polyfuses over the years. I'd first rule out a bad power brick. Test it if you know how, or borrow a known good one from someone. Just make sure it's a match for your system (both voltage and amperage, voltage must match and amperage must be greater than or equal to that on your power brick).

If you can, try booting a copy of linux off a usb drive/ dvd and see if it's still giving you problems (don't install unless you want to lose everything on your computer). Always the outside chance it's something within windows that has gone bad. Having a linux boot disk is a good diagnosis tool.

Sadly when diagnosing a computer problem it's rarely as simple as one answer. You have to start with the simple fixes and work your way down.

Hi

Can you please tell me if your problem was fixed and how you fixed it since I'm facing the same problem. A little help would be appreciated.

Thank you
