Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-75 - Can't install Windows 8 as it's not booting from the DVD

2014-12-24, 18:34 PM

Hello,

i've bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-75 ( with Free DOS ):

Bios Version: A4CN24WW (V 1.03)

Im trying to install Windows 8 but it just doesnt work. not matter if i allow secure boot or disable it. no matter if i choose from the "OS Optimized Defaults : [Win8 64bit]"

i changed the boot priority so that the DVD-Reader is on the highest place (1).

got a working Win8 DVD, also got win7 professional, but i'd rather install Windows 8.

Even though Win7 is okay too if it'll work then.

i don't know what to do other than switching around between all those options. and it doesn't help me at all.

Whenever i start the laptop and choose to start with the DVD-Reader it lights up and nothing happens.

Somebody please help me with this hella annoying issue.

Thanks in advance.

Replying later. hopefully i won't fall asleep. it's pretty late in germany already.

Thanks for your continues help.

Don't forget to set in the Exit Menu OS Optimizied Defaults = Win8 64bit if you are installing Windows 8 else set it to Other OS if Windows 7.

Good luck.

Can you give detail on how the install of Win 8 failed? What's the settings you made in the bios?

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-75 - Can't install Windows 8 as it's not booting from the DVD

I've tried various different things: ( Also tried to use a Win7 Install DVD, which didn't work either. )

I.    Bios/ Configuration:

System Time: xx.xx.xx

System Date: xx/xx/xxx

USB Legacy: Enabled

Wireless: Enabled

SATA Controller Mode: [AHCI]

Graphic Device: [Switchable Graphics]

Hotkey Mode: [Enabled]

Power Beep: [Disabled]

Bios Back Flash: [Disabled]

II.     Bios.

Boot; Boot Mode; "Legacy Support"

Boot; Boot Priority: Legacy First

Boot; USB-Boot: enabled

Boot; PXE Boot to Lan: enabled

Boot Priority Order:

1. Atapi CD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GUA0N

2. ATA HDD: ST500LM000-SSHD-8GB

3. PCI Lan: EFI Network (IPv4)

4. PCI Lan: EFI Network (IPv6)

5. USB HDD

6. USB CD

7. USB FDD

III.     Bios/Exit

OS Optimized Defaults: Either i tried [Win8 64bit] or the other ( second and last option ): "Other OS"

With these settings the Laptop just starts the Free DOS System...

With having the same options as stated above, except for changing:

Bios / Boot

Boot Mode: [UEFI]

then under the Security Section a few more commands appear:

Secure Boot [Enabled]

Secure Boot Status: Disabled ( greyed out, can't change this )

Platform Mode: Setup Mode ( greyed out, can't change this )

Secure Boot Mode: Custom Mode (greyed out, can't change this )

Reset to Setup Mode: [Enter]

Restore Factory Keys: [Enter]

When i leave the settings like this and restart the Laptop while having the DVD in the Reader following menu appears (It looks the same as the Bios, just with 2 Sections above and less things to choose from)

Boot Menu:

1. ATAPI CD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GUA0N

2. ATA HDD: ST500LM000-SSHD-8GB

3. PCI Lan: EFI Network (IPv4)

4. PCI Lan: EFI Network (IPv6)

No matter which i choose from, it just flickers for a second and comes back. nothings happens.

So the second Tab / Section is "App Menu" which i can go with the Tab-Key to:

1.Setup ( which leads me to the usual Bios menu )

2. Diagnostic Splash ( which shows just the Laptop Information

"Phoenix Secure Core Technology(TM)

CPU

Ram

System Bios shadowed

Video Bios shadowed

Bios Version

Atapi CD-Rom HL-DT-St DVDRAM GUA0N

Fixed Disk: ST500LM000-SSHD-8GB

"Press any key to exit"

And with having the same settings as mentioned above EXCEPT for DISABLING "SECURE BOOT" under : Bios/Security/Secure Boot: Disabled, the same Menu pops up where it just lights up for a second or half or so and then just. well nothing. nothing happens..

Please help ...

Or is this not fix-able?
Which would be pretty hyper retarded. Selling notebooks with Free Dos and not making them able to install a proper Operating system.
