By all means, blame the one guy who's actually tried to help in this thread for Lenovo's unresponsiveness...

So here's a little modification of a photo that n1smo took a while ago, so you can ignore the black tape.

Red parts are the areas that I tapped, theres a thi part because I ran out of copper tape, so I cut it in two parts.

Yellow area was part of te original idea.

Purple: ideas that might improve the solution.

As for this day, I only had two ocassions where I had little problems (unwillingly selecting text), but it didnt freaked out like before and didnt last for eternity either, it ust lasted for 3-5 seconds . I've been doing f¿great this day, i can even use gestures.

You can try what its stated on the picture I posted, to supress even more the issue, I dont think I'll open the lap again, Im ok with this. :)

Any questions, feel free to ask!

I sent my Y500 to Lenovo in the Netherlands with the touchpad problem (see my earlier post). I received it back in two weeks. The ELAN touchpad has been replaced by a Synaptics. I've been testing it the whole morning and everything seems fine now. I must say the Synaptics touchpad feels nicer and is more responsive too.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Got my Y500 back today from Texas.  Eagerly anticipating this day for weeks now!  Was flabbergasted to see that the technician said that they didn't replace the trackpad but rather...get this...the top case.  ?!?!?!?  Well, I powered it up, and found that the Elan drivers had been deactivated/deleted, and that it was functioning on a generic PS/2 driver.  Annoying -- no swipe gestures, no multi-finger gestures.  I downloaded the newest Elan driver, killed the generic one, and it seems to be working okay -- swipe/multifinger gestures and all.

For now, I'm cautiously optimistic -- after about 30 minutes of use, no sign of the jumpy/uncontrollable pointer I used to have.  It used to show up after about 5-10 minutes.

I'll report back again if I have any more problems.

Hi, want to buy a y500 but afraid of the trackpad issue. Would this model 59359559 sold on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%204023&IsNodeId=1&name=%241000%20-%20%241250 have the elan touchpad or the synopsis trackpad. I don't know if there is a different model number for the synopsis trackpad and the elan trackpad.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

FYI to everyone I'm still waiting for my refund. I was told that it would take 2-3 business days for the refund to be processed after Lenovo received it. They received it on 2/2 (I tracked the package). That makes 15 business days so far and 3 full weeks - since they received it.

I've talked to customer service at least 5-10 times, maybe more. Every single time they apologize and tell me one of two things:

-It is being processed and will be credited to your account in 3-5 business days

-It has been process and will be credited to your account by the end of the day

I've heard those same two responses every single time I call Lenovo support. I've asked two support reps to send me confirmation emails, the first one being over a week ago that it was processed and would be posted by the end of the day. It was titled "Test Email" and said to contact his email if it wasn't posted. I did. He never responded. The second support rep emailed me, while I was on the phone with him, an email containing details contrary to what he just told me. After I called him out on this, he sent me another email with different details. What the hell is that?

The emails have never contained any details about my specific issue. I ask the support reps to provide their extension numbers in the emails and they never do. This is just absolute garbage customer service. I have no idea what the hell I should do except call over and over and over and waste more of my time.

I trusted Lenovo with over $1000 of my hard earned money. That isn't just play money to me, this was an investment that I was going to be using for personal and professional purposes. I've now had to sit on this for over a month, and purchase a different WORKING laptop from another manufacturer. I have loans Lenovo. I have bills. I need you to step up and issue me my refund - HOW IS THAT THIS DIFFICULT?

What are you doing Lenovo???

Does Lenovo pay for shipping to get a refund?
