FYI to everyone I'm still waiting for my refund. I was told that it would take 2-3 business days for the refund to be processed after Lenovo received it. They received it on 2/2 (I tracked the package). That makes 15 business days so far and 3 full weeks - since they received it.

I've talked to customer service at least 5-10 times, maybe more. Every single time they apologize and tell me one of two things:

-It is being processed and will be credited to your account in 3-5 business days

-It has been process and will be credited to your account by the end of the day

I've heard those same two responses every single time I call Lenovo support. I've asked two support reps to send me confirmation emails, the first one being over a week ago that it was processed and would be posted by the end of the day. It was titled "Test Email" and said to contact his email if it wasn't posted. I did. He never responded. The second support rep emailed me, while I was on the phone with him, an email containing details contrary to what he just told me. After I called him out on this, he sent me another email with different details. What the hell is that?

The emails have never contained any details about my specific issue. I ask the support reps to provide their extension numbers in the emails and they never do. This is just absolute garbage customer service. I have no idea what the hell I should do except call over and over and over and waste more of my time.

I trusted Lenovo with over $1000 of my hard earned money. That isn't just play money to me, this was an investment that I was going to be using for personal and professional purposes. I've now had to sit on this for over a month, and purchase a different WORKING laptop from another manufacturer. I have loans Lenovo. I have bills. I need you to step up and issue me my refund - HOW IS THAT THIS DIFFICULT?

What are you doing Lenovo???

it takes about 10-12 days to get a refund. alert your credit card company and chill out.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I'm with Darren on this one. It took about 10 business days to do my refund on my y500. I shipped it back on 2/7 and refund was just issued on 2/24 I believe. That's not too bad. Any longer and I might have been leery.

And again, I'm still loving the y580 replacement for the y500. I've been remoting into work now since early February and it works seamlessly. No touchpad problems ...knock on wood.

So glad I didn't go that replacement for another y500 route or opt for repairs. Ive been reading some real bad stories here. I personally think Lenovo wanted to make a good gaming machine. Just a bad choice on design and the Elan touchpad.

I dropped my old Y500 off to be returned on 2/8. They received it in Whitsett, NC on 2/12, and I'm still waiting for my refund even though Lenovo reps have promised, swore, and guaranteed me it would definitely be done by Thursday the 21st, then Friday the 22nd, and "any second now." If deelybop's went in the 7th and got it the 24th, maybe today will be my day. ;) I plan on writing up a full review for my experience and posting to both here and the Y500 page for people that are still receiving faulty laptops. My Y580 has been flawless so far as well.

One question is still unanswered: Are the reported keyboard problems (random characters being typed) in connection with the touchpad issue? Fixing the latter will fix the former too?

So question-- has everyone who's had their top cover replaced (either manually or as a formal Lenovo repair) been able to fix the issue? Is this a definite fix? I really would like a Y500 and want confirmation that I will be able to get a working one through repair/replacaement.

Received my replacement Y500 today. Bitter about the time it took, but I've been working with the laptop all day and it seems to be completely functional. The new laptop has a synaptics touch pad versus the elan one in the previous laptop. I'm unsure where to go from here; it feels bitter-sweet after dealing with support for 2 months to get the laptop. Hope others with dysfunctional touch pads heed this warning; if you don't think it's worth 2 months of waiting, don't send your laptop in for repair work-- you won't get much in terms of communication. :(

Somehow, it seems that user that got keyboard with a plastic backside(or at least black colored) were prone to faulty keyboards. When comparing to n1sm0s case, my keyboard at the backside was metalllic and never had an issue with it... Perhaps the earliest version off this lap got the faulty keyboard problem, but not very sure.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Just received my Y500 back after 2 days of repairs. The hard drive was re-imaged and the Synaptec touchpad was installed with a new top cover. So far, it does not show any signs of the problems the previous ones had. I had sent it in once before and it was not repaired properly.

Overall, support wasn't all that polite the first time, but helpful nevertheless. The 2nd time the support experience was not bad at all.

In summary, I do like my Y500. It fits my needs rather well and I was able to get it for a very decent price. Would I buy Lenovo again? Yes, probably. Mainly because I've had seen issues with other laptop manufacturers also, and in the end I got the laptop that I wanted.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

I'm on hold with Lenovo as I type this. I returned my Y500, which they received on 2/12. On 2/22, they placed a "priority" label on it to simply give me my money back. I called again today, and the lady told me that orders were being held and not returned because SALES WERE LOW!!! I'm shocked. I can't get my $900 back because you're putting out all of these defective units which are reflecting poorly on your sales?! She placed ANOTHER "priority status" on it. Can't wait to call back in another "3-5 days." Do I love my Y580 that works as it should? Yes. Will I ever refer someone to purchase a Lenovo product? No, simply because of terrible customer service.
