Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

Y500 Manufactured on Nov 20, 2012

Recevied on Dec 20,2012

Today March 20, 2012

Finally, the touchpad problem arised.

I called The Tech support and mention about this issue.

The Rep on the Phone did not acknowledge the issue with Y500 touchpad.

Then he remoted into my laptop and I showed this web page to him.

The Lenovo Rep still insisted that there is no issue with Y500.

And he refused to place me on the repair order and told me to call them back when the touchpad problem arise again.

I was like **bleep**! I asked him if I could talk to his supervisor. He told me his supervisor was not available at the moment.

And then after few seconds, he sent me the RMA to send my laptop to repair.

But he refused to put side note stating that " I request the Elan touchpad to be replaced". He just told me that the Tech would do whatever need to be repaired after my laptop arrive the repair center.

I sent my laptop to repair center in TX through Fedex just 4 hours ago.

But now I'm conerned if the Rep stated the reason for repair since he refused.

Mark_lenovo, Can you follow my case?

It seems like Lenovo still doesn't address the problem in the lenovo system.......

I too have the same problem with my Trackpad. It sometimes starts acting weird and while it is happening I cannot use my trackpad. If I look at the ELAN Pointing Device I see that there is a blue color pointer that keeps glowing when this problem occur. This problem is fluctuating as it arises at any point of time while working.

Can Lenovo help me with this issue and get this Laptop replaced like others did? Or can they get it fixed? The laptop is Nov, 2012 Manufactured the purchase date is 29-03-2013 and I am from INDIA. Please Lenovo, help me in this regard.

Thanks

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

It works! Everyone!

Don't have to retape or move anything! Just remove that silver tape! And then use electric tape to block the whole touchpad!

I Believe that both the metal cover and the metal color borad by the side of touchpad are badly grounded! I tried to ground them with a lot of copper tape to the plugin of power cable, but it doesn't help at all. So, if the touchpad is connected to them, they make the touchpad start acting on! Then I thought: why not don't try to ground the touchpad to them at all? Then I remove the silver tape, make sure there is no conductive part connecting the touchpad to the cover or the metal color panel. And electric tape the whole touchpad. Now the touchpad is totally isolated from the other hardware!

The result is amazing!! The touchpad is never so sensitive!

I tried all the possible ways to change the ground point, but no one works for me at all. Then this comes up to me.

I also believe that if anyone could figure out how to better gound the metal cover and the metal color panel, it could solve the keyboard problem too!

Hi ghibilmoon,

Thanks for your sharing and glad it works for you.

Nevertheless, I will not suggest users to do that as do not wish anyone of you lose your warranty for anything happens due to this suggested change. Therefore, try at own risk.

Still, we recommend our customers to get the touchpad replaced at the service centre nearby you which I will say it's safer to do so.

Thanks anyway.

Best regards,
Cleo

I dont't want to do it by myself neither, but Lenovo left me with no choice. I called Lenovo in January, but they refuse to admit that the design of touchpad failed. They also told me that I have lost my warranty just because I formated my hard drive, created new partitions, and installed Windows7 by myself. Lenovo believe that by reinstalling windows8, it can solve both the touchpad and keyboard problems! But I know, and now we all know, it is a hardware design failure! I really like this laptop, so I openned it up and try to fix it by myself.

That lenovo guy also told me: "Believe me, after you switch back to windows8, all problems will be gone. Because no one ever come back to me, it means they all got problems solved"............ No one came back, because this kind of phone call doesn't help at all!

At least now I have a really good touchpad. Could you please let me know how to fix the keyboard? Maybe, by PM me? If you don't want to encourage everyone to open their laptops and lose warranties. Thank you very much!
